My wife has pancreatic cancer, which she's been getting treated for since early August. Between the uncovered medical expenses and travel costs to get back and forth for her treatments, AND losing my day job (because of missing time to take her to treatments), I have exhausted every last bit of savings I had.
I am now looking at trying to come up with some ways to raise money until we are through this. It occurred to me that I have a pretty extensive video instructional library that I've accumulated over the last decade.
My question is, what do you think would be the best way to raise some funds? I've thought of possibly doing a "fundraiser" auction (ala Ebay) on all my videos, or perhaps I could do a raffle of some sort. I'm leaning towards the raffle at present, but your feedback would be appreciated, along with what I should charge for a raffle ticket if I go that route.
Or should I see if Kirik would let me set up some kind of donation program where we could just randomly give away some of these instructionals?
I have a lot of titles from Tony Blauer, Roy Harris, Michael Jen, Scott Sonnon, Marco Lala, Ringside Boxing videos, some Stephan Kestings, a bunch of WMA stuff, some Island titles, a bunch of Grapplers Quest videos (that Brian Cimmins himself graciously donated to me to sell) and more. Many are on VHS, but quite a few are on DVD or DVD-R. Also, do any of you have any unwanted videos you'd be willing to donate up?
Please give me some input........ if this is a bad idea, if you have a better idea, or whatever. I just bottomed out my checkbook today paying bills, and I don't have any idea how I'm coming up with money for next month's mortgage, let alone anything else!!
The doctors are telling me that IF she beats this, we are looking at around 6 to 8 more months before she'll be back to "normal" again. I'm grasping at straws and need help in a BAD WAY. We're looking into state aid programs, but qualifying for some of them are ridiculously difficult if you've actually worked for a living within the last year. Others automatically disqualify you if you have any other assets. (Anyone want to buy the 10.1 acres of raw land in northern Vermont that I own?)
I knew health care was expensive, but I can't honestly see how anyone can be prepared for these kinds of expenses unless they win the lottery ahead of time!!
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know what else to do at this time.
