1st PAN-ASIAN INTERNATIONAL
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU COMPETITON

Kamphuis-Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club would like to invite you to participate in the 1st Pan-Asian International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition to be held on May 22, 2005, Sunday. The competition will be held at the La Salle Greenhills–Fr. Martinez Activity Center, located at Ortigas Ave., Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Competition will begin at 8:00 am. There will be divisions for the white, blue, purple and brown belt levels as well as an absolute division. This competition is for men only. Certificates will be given to all competitors while Trophy cups and Medals shall be given to the champions.

Attached are the competition rules including the weight categories to compete in, an entry form where applicants supply information about themselves thus making up the grappler’s profile, and a waiver stating in effect that a competitor shall be solely responsible for himself.

The forms may be photocopied, scanned or retyped for multiple entry applications. Deadline for submission of accomplished entry forms/waivers is on May 15, 2005. A registration fee will be required of those who want to participate. Belt Levels: White, Blue, Purple*, Brown*, Absolute*
*Purple belt, Brown belt and absolute ? Open weight division only

Weight Division (in kgs) for White and Blue belt:
Under 62kg, 62.1-69kg, 69.1-76kg, 76.1-85kg, 85.1?95kg, 95.1kg and over

Weigh in before first fight, 3kg allowance for GI. If you do not make weight, you will be disqualified.

Entry fee per participant: Php 550 for Philippine citizens. US$ 20 for non-Philippine citizens.

Registration due before 15 May 2005, or a Php 100 late fee will apply. No entries accepted after 6:00 pm of 18 May 2005. All entries must be made 3 days prior to the day of competition.

Please pay in cash at the Academy, or to the appointed representatives to be announced later. Absolute Competitors can be chosen on the day by team coaches. Number of allowed competitors for the Absolute division per team will be decided on the day of the competition. No additional fee.

Team Trophy; Points allocation to be decided by points as per BJJ rules. Results to decide the overall team trophies.

Trophies will be awarded to the Absolute winner and runner-up.

Rules under Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation

These rules apply to all events.

Legal Techniques:
?All arm, shoulder and wrist locks
?Any choke
?Straight ankle locks (Purple belts, Brown belts and Absolute only)
?Inner toeholds and kneebars (Purple belts, Brown belts and Absolute only)

Illegal Techniques: disqualification
?Slamming when in the guard
?Eye gouging or fish-hooking
?Striking/ kicking or hair pulling
?Biting, Scratching
?Small-joint manipulation (fingers/ toes)
?Heel hooks or twisting kneebars
?Neck cranks
?Grabbing the ears
?Kicking from guard
?Touching the groin area
?Failure to release submission hold after opponent taps out
If the fighter breaks the rules he may be immediately disqualified. All disqualified competitors will lose their registration fee.

Points: (positions must be held for 3 seconds)
?Mount 4 points
?Back mount with hooks in 4 points
?Passing the guard 3 points
?Knee on belly 2 points
?Sweep or reversal (From Guard/ Half Guard) 2 points
?Takedown 2 points

Penalties:
?Running from the fight (minus) 1 point
?Competitor or coach arguing with referee or other official (minus) 1 point
?Stalling stand up
?Holding position for longer than 30 seconds without moving is a warning,
?Penalty allocation 2nd warning advantage to your competitor, 3rd and succeeding warnings 2 points to competitor

Time Limits:

?Purple, Brown and Absolute 6 Minutes
?minimum rest time between fights 5 minutes

?Blue (or Black belt in Judo)

?Absolute (any belt or weight can enter)

Competition:
?Weigh in just before your first fight
?All competitors must wear a clean Gi (Judo or BJJ) in good condition. Sleeves are to be no shorter than 4" from wrist. Four finger cuff clearance.
?Mat area 7 meter x 7 meter (includes one meter safety mat) if fighters go outside this area the referee will restart the match in the center of the mat, in the same position that they left the mat. If fighters where standing, they will restart facing each other.
?Knockout competition, no repecharge (winner only through to next round)
?Two 3rd places given to the last person who fought in the semi finals
?Draws posted on the wall. 2 minute call time allowance. It is the competitor?s responsibility to find out when his match will take place. Any competitor who does not show up for a match will automatically forfeit the match and registration fee.
?Any competitor who displays un-sportsman like conduct before, during, or after the match, will be disqualified and forfeit the registration fee. i.e. Use of profanity, profane gestures, argumentative or belligerent behavior directed towards the referee, spectators, opponents or tournament organizers
?Two weight divisions fought simultaneously through to the finals
?No Break for Lunch

Brown belt and Absolute Division will run at the end of the day.

NB: Check your weights on your application form, no changes allowed on the day. If you do not make the weight, you will be disqualified and will forfeit your entry fee.
