What would you consider a decent training pace?
Just did 2 miles in 13:45 @ 215 lbs. Is this decent or am I deluding myself?
that's my 1.5 mile time... so i would say it's good.... of course i am a bit heavier than you though
Good.
That's my 2-mile time very likely now. But I am 160 lbs.
thanks a lot, i just finished 4 miles in barely less than 30 minutes and felt great about it; now i feel pathetic.
JKennedy -I'm 34 so 95%. Shit. 13:18 or drop I guess.

Kinda nuts when you look at that chart. 100% only drops 18 seconds for the third age group.
Thanks for the chart, good context.
Good by my standards, but I suck at running.
Down to 13:13, so when I get drafted I'll be at 100% standard.
dang. that is fast.. i can't even do that on a treadmill
im 185 and do 14 minutes. i could do it faster but i have shin splints at the present moment.
Where did that table come out? Estonian DF has higher requierments...
100 points is 11:54 for the youngest age group and so on.
Ridiculously low standards for women...
Anyway... they still call it the NATO test in the DF but the standards are a tad higher as i said... Dunno if they switched it as a nation or is it some european thing...
This little toy looks cool for assisting with the running. Anyone have one?
Watch Results
Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405 continuously monitors your time, distance, pace, calories and heart rate (when paired with heart rate monitor). Each run is stored in memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you've improved. You can even download recorded courses to compete against previous workouts or race a Virtual Partner®. Customize Forerunner’s data screens for instant feedback while you train.
Use with Ease
Sport watch and personal trainer — Forerunner 405 gives you the best of both worlds in a sleek, stylish package. This high performance watch is easy to use and comfortable to wear when not training. Simply tap the touch bezel to change screens without fumbling for a button. Forerunner 405 comes in two color options — black or green — to fit your style.
Run, Sync, Store and Share
Once you’ve logged the miles, innovative ANT+™ wireless technology automatically transfers data to your computer when the Forerunner is in range. No cables, no hookups. The data’s just there, ready for you to analyze, categorize and share through our online community, Garmin Connect or our optional Garmin Training Center® software. You can wirelessly send workouts from your computer to Forerunner, too.
Share Wirelessly
With Forerunner 405 you can share your locations, advanced workouts and courses wirelessly with other Forerunner 405 users. Now you can send your favorite workout to your buddy to try, or compete against a friend's recorded course. Sharing data is easy. Just select “transfer” to send your information to nearby units.
Track Heart Rate
Forerunner 405 is available with or without a heart rate monitor (see the versions tab) to help you make the most out of your training. Versions with a digital heart rate monitor continuously track heart beats per minute. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.
i have the 205. wanna get the 305 because it has the HRM, plus it's cheaper than the new one. although Garmin just came out with a newer one than the 405...might check that one out too.
305 had major lag finding satellite.
that's crazy. i have the 205 and haven't had any problems at all. i've ran with it for a couple of good years now and in different cities/environments. the only thing that stinks is to wait the 1 to 2 minutes that it takes to lock onto a satellite.
Yea thats good.
So, I'm getting all happy with myself with this running stuff. Talking with a co worker tonight. He tells me that his WIFE just did a 10k. Her time at the 2 mile marker was 13:00. Finished in 47 mins. She's 37 yrs old.
Ok, later. Off to suicide myself.
My 5th grader can run a 6:07 mile so Im sure can do 13:00 for 2. His goal is to get under 20:00 in the 5k before 6th grade.
I on the other hand suck..
Hey Jon,
Do the standards go over 41? What is the next cut-off or is that it?
I just started running again last week. First time in years (out doors) I will set these standards (above) as my own. See if I can get 100% by September. 20 years ago (Yeah...I have been around for a while) I ran 5 miles under 25 minutes. I don't think I'll ever even try to get back to that time. Not only was I 20 years younger, I was 40 lbs lighter.
