Jake Clark, brother of Joey Clark is there right now! Very cool
Possibly dumb but serious question. What's the difference between a competition like this and the olympics. Is it pretty much the same athletes as in the olympics. Is this pro with cash rewards? Is the level of competition more or less the same as the olympics? Just curious. I hear of guys like Hendo, Couture, Sonnen, being on the U.S. Olympic team. Any of them or any other top MMA guys compete in the worlds - and how did they do??? thanks..
About 13 million people live in Moscow.
About 10 million of them are hot chicks.
What a great place.

Joe Warren won a gold medal at the World Championships in Greco Roman, I don't know all that much about it compared to the Olympics but I've heard the competition is very similar.
Stephen Neal who is an NFL player and the guy to beat Brock Lesnar at the 1999 NCAA Championships won the World Championships at 286 pounds.

The world's are very similar to the Olympic games. On Olympic years, there are no worlds as the Olympic games serve as the world championship for that year. The World's the year following the Olympic games are generally the weakest of the cycle and that is because lots of top guys retire after the Olympic games and do not return the following year. The 2nd year, however, you get a real good look at who will be shooting for the Olympics that are 2 years away. I think it's pretty safe to say that the Olympics are a little bit better tournament than the worlds because the top guys come out of the wood work to make the team and in turn push everyone to be better. But make no mistake, the world championships on non Olympic years are nothgin to sneeze at, especially year 2 and year 3 in the cycle.
iirc people generally clump the worlds and olympics together as 'world level' events when discussing someone's record, e.g. Buvaisar Saitiev won 9 world level events (3 Olympics & 6 Worlds).
I am not sure what the 'next toughest' comp is, the Europeans maybe?
