2013 BJJ goals

Stay Steady, maybe a blue belt? (Im forever a white belt at this point) Phone Post

Guard retention against Black Belts

Passing - specifically engaging the open guard.

Get my green belt in judo (yellow now, doesn't seem impossible w/ 2nights/week judo. We have gradings once/semester. I am a BJJ purple belt.)

Lose 30lbs.

Compete. For one reason or another I took last year off. I'd like to compete at Heavyweight, which is 23lbs away right now.

Compete at the Chicago Opens, every one, win no-gi Pans again in the fall, compete as much as I can thru the year, further develop my game. Maybe at the end of the year my brown belt Phone Post

kying418 -
liquidrob - Kying, I seen you post about playing bottom half guard before, with all your training with Marcelo how did that happen? Lol, just doesn't make sense, just wondering

I already had 5-6 years of bjj training before I started training with Marcelo.

By that time, I had already favored the half guard game (I have thick short legs, that allow me to naturally clamp down tight- so being lazy in nature, I gravitated towards that).

Since training with Marcelo, I always try his butterfly- xguard game, but if I go against a tougher opponent, I lose confidence and fall back on my old game.

Furthermore, my cardio isn't very good, and I don't often "push" myself in training (only rolling 65% intensity or so). At my skill level, if I play Marcelo's game while being lazy and not pushing the pace, I can get readily smashed by more skilled (or athletic) opponents.

This sounds exactly like me. I only have 3 years in so far though. Phone Post

Stay healthy, be consistent, and have fun

Everything else will work itself out

Just started last Thursday and I want to be able to compete by next August I have 2 years prior wrestling and from rolling the last two classes I'm really flexible when it comes to arm submissions Phone Post

Be more aggressive. Get back to my feet when possible instead of laying in my guard.  Work on takedowns.

Also just get better.

Train in Brazil without getting injured.

Get 1 stripe for my belt.

Hopefully start BJJ tonight :-/ Phone Post

Just coming back from injuries and long layoffs. Only...not coming back to a Rickson school which I've been with since 96'. Feels weird but it's all good.

My main goal is to train smart, stay healthy, but over all develop a great relationship with my new team and professors. Develop some real friendships there and relight my fire to compete. So fat so good. Some tough people there and everyone's cool. Phone Post

Shen just want to make sure you got the email. Let me know brother

leg drags

To compete at least twice; to put my best effort into every class and try to perform each repetition of every drill "perfectly"; to try more new moves when rolling and quit "playing it safe"; and to commit to not go for the same submission on the same partner twice in the same week Phone Post

ttt until shen

^ Got it!
