2nd most popular sport in Brazil: NOT MMA or BJJ

Behind soccer, it's bull riding, which kind of shocked me.

I saw it on a recent 60 Minutes Sports piece (anyone else catch this) and you can search on the interwebitory.

12 of the top 40 bull riders are Brazilian and the #1 guy is Brazilian. All the good riders move to the States because it pays way more than in Brazil.

I believe I heard rodeo/bull riding attendence actually surpasses soccer, but I think that is due to there being more events.

I thought every Brazilan came out of the womb either kicking a soccer ball or practicing triangle chokes, not riding something that weighs over a ton for 8 seconds.

I don't think that's right. I'd be willing to bet volleyball is the second most popular.
I'm guessing PBR has some dana-like publicists.

There's a few Brazilian riders with great accomplishments. Phone Post 3.0

I saw it , very interesting. The one ex bull rider who made minions in the states runs that event that attracts 1.5 mil people. ThTs crazy !! He is one smart cookie , making some serious money off of bull riding. Then again riding a bull might make him not so smart. Lol Phone Post 3.0

Funny last line. VU.

Yep, I guess he is a legend in the sport and a 3 time PBR World Champion back in the day. His name is Adriano Moraes and there is a large bronze statue of him, not an American bull rider, in front of the PBR headquarters in Colorado. The decision to choose him was from fan voting.

The Brazilians have made there markt on this sport, for sure.

Wrong!  Dancing with jungle heat passion and wearing skimpy clothes while shaking the "boom boom" (butt) is the national obsession of brazil.

Quite inaccurate......but great pic, so VU. :)

I didn't see any Brazillian teams in the NFL playoffs this year, let alone the Super Bowl.

Although I'm sure many of the players are taking some of the same substances as A Silva.

Who actually thought MMA or BJJ were the #2 sports in Brazil. Rofl.

I thought it was Judo? Phone Post 3.0

Since you have it pegged, what did you think the #2 sport in Brazil was? Ice dancing?

I'm not surprised, I watch bull riding from time to time and was kind of surprised that 2 of the top 3 were Brazilian last time I tuned in.

Formula 1 racing is also huge there. Phone Post 3.0

He's referring to football, which is soccer. Everywhere else in the world besides the U.S it is called it that. Phone Post 3.0

Never heard of "football" in that sense. I have, however, seen a sport where grown men fall down for no reason and act like a grenade exploded in front of them. They are then carted off the field in agony, only to return within a minute and running at full stride again.

It is the same sport where I've seen plenty of grown ass adult fans cry and even at times riot merely because a group of guys who will never know or care about the fans do not kick a ball into a net as many times as the other team.

But I have no idea what this abortion of a sport is called, except it looks a lot like soccer.
