With this generation of fighters training, diet and exercise I think your average fight can go to 5 rounds easily, and in doing so we will see more finishes and find out whose the best fighter.
The only negative I can think is that in 5 round fights there might be more stalling to conserve energy.
I dunno what does the UG think?
in
then Champ fights would have to be seven, and when you get to light and heavey thats a lot of time. Also think about the time it would take as for as the whole card, it would have to go down to like 5 or 6 fight per. I see where you're coming from but i just dont think it would work
Sometimes I think so but then Marcus Davis fights and I wish the fights were 1 round instead.
Just like when working out, the fighters should just be more explosive inside of 3 rounds if they're in that good of shape. The fighters that come in conditioned and are exciting for 3 rounds will do the same for 5 rounds. The ones that gas and stall will be agonizing to watch for 5 rounds.
5 - 5 minute rounds non title
championship fights are too the death in Thunderdome, bitch
fighters won't be supportive of this, working an extra 2 rounds for free is bad business...
What drives me nuts is to see one fighter get controlled for 2 rounds and then win the third round where the first fighter is just hanging on and the other guy is close to finishing and then the fight ends and the guy who did lesser damage wins.
Obviously pride rules and scoring would be best but in lieu of that I am thinking an extra two rounds would be good to see who the real fighter is.
However everyone against it makes excellent points about the card being to long and 5 rounds of hugging is worse than3 rounds of hugging
The other thing though is I think they should make super fights like Wand VS Franklin 5 rounds.
That was a fight that could have and should have gone on until there was a definitive winner

How about if people just learn to finish fights instead of waiting 15 minutes for the judges?

Fair enough but now with the Athleticism and training people just seem to cancel each other out.
Fights like that only seem to get interesting when both fighters are pushed past their limits and take chances.
Another idea is having an automatic bonus for Finishing the fight.
not an arbitrary fight of the night but a good bit of more money for finishes
an extra 20-40k might make fighters more hungry
RedCoat - Nope, I don't agree.
Not every fighter can go "the championship" rounds. So what we'll end up seeing is a good fight for the first two or three then a sloppy slugfest in the 4th and 5th.
So a fighter could dominate a fight then get caught by a low skilled fighter with better cardio. Baroni would hate this.
I'd be more in favor of 5-3.5 minute rounds and then 5-5 minute rounds for championships. Mixed Martial Arts hasn't gotten to the level where they can go for 36 minutes like boxing
If a good fighter can't finish off a low quality fighter and gasses and gets caught is that person really a "good fighter"
Funny because we were discussing this on Saturday night. I'm all for an extra round.
I agree. Should be five. When someone gasses after three they deserve a beating. Plus it will cut down on the lay and pray strategy empoyed by wrestlers.
ferox13 -
That's a funny Gif but Kimbo actually had more gas at the end and in an other round or two would have Ko'd Houston.
Not that it wouldn't have been a shitty fight.
But it was a shitty fight anyways at least it would have had a definitive finish
^LMAO!!
Just think though Ferox, by the next round they would have been a tap or KO, because they would have been too tired to keep going.
I really like the 10 minute first round in Pride.

Did Kenny Florian hack your account?

I agree, 5 minutes is too short for a round. I personally think the rounds should be longer then 5 minutes. These short rounds favor the more athletic people.
Sometimes its nessesary to tire out your opponent. The break inbetween the rounds allows them to recoup their energy. If it was one 15 minute round there would be no rest between rounds and it would allow you to capitalize more fully on tiring out your opponent.
Also sometimes someone is in a great position and the person gets saved by the end of the round. Instead of escaping they will just wait the clock out.
i would prefer to see one big round. 15 minutes for non-title fights, 25 for title fights.
