Iām not sure it does. There are a bunch of possible outcomes. Stick around longer and keep winning. Stick around longer and rack up some losses. Either way, we get to know how long your peak was, which is pretty important when talking about GOAT. For example, Iām assuming that if you retire during your peak, you were just about to lose, probably because youāve been keeping some injuries secret. I think Khabib would have lost in his very next fight (against GSP). Anderson and Fedor, we know exactly how long their peaks were because they started losing, same with BJ.
Iām not sure I know anyone that simply looks at the record and says āthat guy has some losses, heās out of the runningā. I think most people look at the duration of the peak. Jones, Anderson, GSP, Fedor all had HUGE runs and they have an argument for GOAT. Khabib quit the moment he hit his stride. Calling him GOAT is like projecting a bunch of ballplayers to bat 1000 after the first game and they went 3 for 3.
Prime GSP is far and away a much better fighter than Khabib. He had to take the title from Matt Hughes. Khabib was given a title by fight a number 11 ranked Al Iaquinta.
Imagine what you would say if Khabib tapped to strikes by Matt Serra and got beaten out of the sport by Henricks with 7 decisions in a row as his title defences. GSP is a glorified Belal Muhammed. Iāll say it again.
Give me a break. Khabib and Islam are every bit the lay and pray artists and decision grinders that GSP was. At least GSP had the decency to improve his striking and eventually knock the odd guy out.
Letās not act like GSPās striking was great for someone who had the wrestlers advantage either. Zero power. Got destroyed by Serra, dropped by Condit, mauled by Hendricks. Too bad he was so boring on the ground as well as having no power.
