"For the first time since the original release, this 70mm print was struck from new printing elements made from the original camera negative. This is a true photochemical film recreation. There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits. This is the unrestored film - that recreates the cinematic event that audiences experienced fifty years ago." - Christopher Nolan
I'm so hyped for this after watching the new trailer. Watching it in 70mm on its first release was one of the most intense filmgoing experiences of my life.
Looking at the images on the trailer, it still seems amazing and undated. Despite the real year 2001 turning out so shitty.
Fuck. Yes
In 2001 we had Sisqo and Ja Rule, I beg to differ my friend.
Yeah, but also 9/11, my mom dying, and a torn ACL, among other bad things in my life. Worst year I ever had, and no moon colony like i was promised.
Had not heard of this. Very cool.
What does Nolan have to do with it?
I don’t get it.
They took the 35mm negative and blew it up on 70mm film?
Isn’t that just like shooting a video in 720p and rewrapping it in 1080?
Its been my dream to watch 2001 on the big screen, gonna check the theaters and see if its playing near me.
Hmmm…despite having seen this movie many times (including on my projection screen)…I may have to get out and see this again.
I saw it many years ago on the original IMAX screen in Ontario Place - back when IMAX actually meant fucking huge! - and it was a wondrous experience.
So is this a nationwide release? I can’t imagine many people sitting through the whole thing, but I’ll be there.

That must have been incredible.
I remember seeing a print at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood once, and the scenes were so vast and full of details, that Kubrick's pacing made more sense.

I think they found the original 70mm negative.
Stache - What does Nolan have to do with it?
He oversaw the restoration and new prints.

That doesn’t sound like something a person of his stature would normally do. He must have been really excited to work on this.
Gross, I hate old films.
–time for a re-make with Cillian Murphy!!

They could take 2001 and give it back to the fucking Indians

It’s one of his greatest inspirations. Interstellar was basically his homage to 2001
it really sucks that the country i live in does not have have 1 single cinema that can do 70mm.
