my gawd. its been so long.
Geez I remember where I was and everything. Then watched Ken Shamrock get starched by Rich right after, man I'm getting old.
I was in Japan when that went down. I honestly still haven't ever seen that fight.

Wow that's strange, I was literally just thinking about how the original TUF season was almost a DECADE ago.. literally minutes before I saw this post. Really crazy honestly, time flies. TUF noobs are now hardened veteran fans
Fastest growing Sport in the World sounds pretty accurate when you think back now.

Hansen vs Uno was the best fight of that year.
I agree but there was something special about Bonnar and Griffin back then. Very emotional, kind of a brawl. It's a big reason MMA is where it is now, for better or for worse
There are two vantage points:
1) 2005 - you are back then watching it as it happens
2) 2014 - 9 yrs later - by today's standards the fight may not be up to snuff
It's like watching the first UFC back in Nov 1993. Compared the fights then to fights now. No real comparison if you are used to current fights
BUT if you were back in 1993 watching the fights it was exciting and new and novel
It'd like watching Star Wars when it first came out in 1977. That was fresh and exciting. Using today's lens to view it, it will called bad and primitive
Round of VU's for everyone on this thread
Richie Muldanno - It was OK but I don't really get the extreme passion everyone has for that fite
It's not just the quality of action, it was the climate of the times. If you were pulling for the UFC to succeed, if you knew what was at stake for both guys... then it meant something special.
Also, +1 to see Carlson Gracie again (RIP) in Bonnar's corner.
Good times... Was a great scrap. Diego starched Kenny but in fairness Kenny was fighting way above his weight class.
Blake Griffin and Matt Bonnar?
Wow this is insane. I feel old
Man I was rooting for Bonner to win! Lol good times.
