97% idea- feel free to use it

Someone should make a 97% patch, and sell it to the bjj community.

Since I doubt Team Lloyd Irvin will be going away any time soon, the patch can/will signify that we do not support Lloyd's (non)action of his gang rape account, his actions after his student's rape, and his cult like hold on his top students.

I don't know how feasible it would be, but it would be awesome if 100% (minus material/labor/shipping) went directly to the rape victim (of 2013). Unfortunately, I don't know how this could be done- especially if she insisted on staying with Team LI.

C'mon Shoyoroll, Budovideos, etc- let's do this!

I will gladly pay $10-20 for a patch.

Very cool- looks like Justin Garcia, successful BJJ school owner in NYC- who was once part of Lloyd's marketing group, is part of the 97% too:

From his facebook page:

"Why I left...8 months ago.

When I left that group, one of the messages I received was "You'll never know how much money you missed out on". It was then that I knew I was doing the right thing. My goals are in line with what I see my potential to be. Money is a benefit of the pursuit of those things I remain passionate about, nothing more.

As a martial arts coach, I remember people through the years asking me how my team did in any given tournament. My answer usually threw them for a loop as, instead of reciting a medal count, I'd comment on how many of my students believed enough in my message to actually put their fears aside and go give the competition a try. As I always saw it, some would win, some would lose, but as Miyagi said, they'd all "make good fight".

Man, what happened to martial artists looking to explore themselves, push themselves...become "better people"? Is that too corny for today's generation? I get a lot of flak from friends when I tell them my favorite movie is "The Princess Bride", but when you think about it, I'm a "root for the hero" kind of guy. Doesn't everybody still want to be a hero? Is it just me? When did people become so obsessed with shiny medals that they were willing to put their pursuit of tem at the forefront of what it is that our training is "for"? Why would a "leader" aspire to make people "hate" them? Why would that leader go so far as to create meter for it and brag about how many people they aim to hate them as much as possible? I know I can't make everyone like me, but I'll be damned if they aren't going to respect me. Whichever it is, though, I don't set out to make any "haters".

It would only make sense that an environment that holds money and tournament wins at the top of their list would suffer deficiencies elsewhere. Disrespect, intimidation...rape. Yep, it all makes sense. Are the powers that be responsible? Well, is the omission of character standards at fault for its absence?

Recruiting from other teams, or to put it more specifically, making it painfully obvious that a tournament champ can leave his team, family, and mentor to go and join another group and be welcomed to do so is, well...disgusting. If you've been invested in by another instructor, especially to the point where you've had your life changed for the better because if that instructor and you're willing to leave him solely because of greener pastures, stay away from my team. We don't want you. I don't care if you're a "world champ", either. My students and instructors have heard one of my favorite sayings for years now: If someone leaves their family to come here, it's just a matter of time before they leave here to go elsewhere. I've experienced this at EVERY belt level of student. Heck, I've even had tournament-winning students thrown out of my school because of their refusal to cultivate personal character, more still who've left because I just flat out refused to promote them due to character issues. Stay with those who've invested in you, guys. I've seen rarely the case when the "next guy" loves and cares for you as much as the "first guy".

What we do in the martial arts has the potential for greatness. Greatness is a "largeness", a "magnitude". We can move the largest of doors with the smallest of hinges, they say. Contrary to what some may think, I believe in martial arts's ability to grow and empower our "hinges".

What do I want from my students? Just to be as motivated (if not more) as myself and their teammates to fulfill personal potential...WHATEVER that is. Ask any one of the people who work for me what I told them they'd be if they were still working for me in 10 years. What is it, you ask? A loser. Jim Rohn said a loser is anyone who doesn't actively pursue their potential. I aim to help and inspire EVERY life I touch a successful one. Here's to never being a loser.

Now to those who don't feel they have the strength to stand on their own. Those who think they need to protection of their current "umbrella"...An umbrella is meant to protect. Why does yours weigh so heavily on you? Make the change, as being unprotected is infinitely better than suffering from the weight of a supposed "protector".

These days I still don't want to be a loser, but a hater ain't looking half bad. Osu.

be sure to post a link on here when he starts selling them

ttt! Love the patch idea and good for Justin Garcia! The response he got when he left LI sounds like an experience I had about 10 months ago...

I worked for ONE DAY at a nice new "MMA Gym" where I could immediately tell one of the BBs was a complete & total fraud. I asked the owner about it and he used a lot of "sales tactics" on me, "asking me for my help", he talked to me about making a LOT of money and "taking it to the next level". Basically, they wanted me to help them legitimize their fake BB. I said, not a chance and that was that.

--Oh BTW, they just went out of business.

So who knows? Maybe being a money-grubbing scumbag with no ethics or moral center ISN'T always the best path to success and happiness. Just a theory.

Great idea.

Meerkatsu (BJJer/artist - see FB) is trying to set something up with proceeds going to charity.

From Marcos Avellan:

"I'm sick to my stomach watching black belt instructors casting stones at a prominent instructor that is going through a scandal. I'm sick to my stomach because of the disgusting hypocrisy.
How is it a hypocrisy? Because many of these men I know personally. I know their habits. Almost none of them have the moral authority to be casting these stones. As the Bible says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..."

All these instructors are talking about how the instructor being stoned created a negative culture that resulted in the scandal. These instructors talk about how they use the martial arts to make "better people", and integrity, and honor, etc. But these same guys have their own skeletons and immoral behaviors.

For instance, one such instructor posted on facebook and cast his stone, talking about culture building, integrity, etc. but every time I've seen him at an event out of town, he is ordering hookers to his room while his wife is back at home watching multiple children by herself. Perhaps this is his own personal demon... but no, he uses the martial arts to influence his instructors/students to join in on this culture as well. So much for "integrity" and making "better people" with your martial arts culture. Using your position as an instructor to promote infidelity and prostitution isn't exactly what I consider a positive martial arts culture - and that same person is currently on a moral crusade to stone to death another instructor. I forgot to mention he is BIG publicly on family values.

I can list hypocrisy after hypocrisy about all these men stepping up to jump in on an execution.

I have NEVER said anything before - and it always weighed on my conscience. It is hard to say this and be taken seriously because of all the hypocrites in my industry, but I did walk out of being an engineer to pursue martial arts full time because I love the direct access I had to help people, face to face, using martial arts. As such, I hold myself to a serious standard - I am a leader and role model 24 hours a day... not just when I'm in front of my students in class. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I don't cheat on my wife or children (we are a family, a unit), I don't act violently, I preach peace, I preach non-violence, and the times I have messed up when I was younger, I have made those moments public so that others could learn from my past mistakes - and I have not repeated them. Nobody is perfect - but I strive to be. I don't do anything that I wouldn't do in front of my children.

My detractors say I only care about money because I am a successful business man. That is their only basis of saying such a thing because my actions have consistently showed otherwise.
I am so dedicated to my mission as a martial arts instructor to help people achieve more of themselves, that I have bought two homes - one for my full time fighters and another for several staff members. All these men and women are drug tested, can't drink alcohol, and live an honest and professional life

Furthermore, none of my athletes use illegal performance enhancing drugs - I want them to win as men or women. I don't care about the excuse, "Everybody else is doing it so it is a level playing field..." We are above that. Many of these instructors throwing stones teach their students how to cycle roids and win via unethical manners - but then they are going to talk about honor and integrity and respect.

My fighters are all taught to live with honor and respect - because their leader lives as such. I don't just speak it - I live it.

Maybe I'm too old fashioned? Maybe whoring behind your wife's back is a "character" developing action. Maybe juicing up your fighters to "win" is honorable. I can accept this, perhaps I'm a dying breed - perhaps my concept of honor and integrity is wrong. Perhaps honor is talking about character and then lying to those that love you.

I'm sick of all of this. I really am. I am very depressed today to see how people I used to respect all picked up stones in an attempt to metaphorically kill a man that they once proudly called a friend - all in the name of their "conscience" and "character". If one of them is truly without sin, then I hope their aim is true... the rest of them just better hope they aren't one day tied to the post and on the receiving end of a lynch mob of stone throwers.

Now I am a grown man and realize most people cheat on their wives and husbands - and that is cool with me. Everybody should be able to live as they wish - but if you are one of those people, I don't think you have the moral authority to be calling anyone out on their character or integrity.

One thing did cheer me up though, I saw someone I mentored write this on their wall today: "I strive to be more than a coach, I am a Mentor."

I believed him. It made me feel better."

unless these people that he "knows" are attempting to rape the hookers they have delivered, then it is really apples and oranges...

why don't you go make some more moronic youtube videos about you unboxing your shill products and leave the analysis to the people that have actually escaped the cult...er...detached themselves from Irvin's ballsack.

god, you really CANNOT polish a turd, can you?

Fantastic.

I must say I appreciated Marco more when he was making kneeslide instructionals.

Marcos Avellan certainly has a penchant for dry snitching. What a little bitch.
