A. Silva comments on Hughes...

briefly in a fantastic interview in the latest FCF by Marcelo Alonso.

"Hughes is a small guy. He doesn't have the size to be in this weight class. What does he want with me? (laughs)

In this interview, he showed nothing but class. I guarantee after reading this interview, you will have even more respect for the man.

If you do not subscribe to FCF, you are missing out.

Thanks!! Hopefully it turns up on their website soon, I always anticipate reading his articles.

hughes could give a silva a fight, his wrestling is great and mat could take him down, having said that silva by ko or tko somewhere down the line..

Short fight IMO.

Anderson has a limited ground game (and no takedown defense), Hughes wouldn't have much trouble with him.

Limited ground game?

Doesn't he have a Black Belt in BJJ from the Noguiera brothers? (I thought I read that somewhere...)

Granted, it's not his strength, but I don't think he's a stranger to fighting on the ground.

That fight would be pretty competitive, but I think Anderson would win. He is very good at stalling from guard to get standups.

smith - thanks. My bad.

goes off to do some research before shooting from the hip again...

"Doesn't he have a Black Belt in BJJ from the Noguiera brothers? (I thought I read that somewhere...)"

I'd be shocked if he was even a purple belt. Seriously, he was submitted by Takase and Chonan, there's no way that he's a legitimate BJJ blackbelt.

Here we go.

Not sure how valid it is, but.....

The new black belt

UFC star, Anderson Silva received the so waited JJ black belt from Rodrigo Minotauro and Rogério Minotouro. Since the end of last year the brothers Nogueira had already promised the belt to Anderson. "He is really though, with a complete Jiu-Jitsu. He is swiping and training very well with black belts", said Rogério Minotouro. Anderson received the belt affirming that his responsibility is bigger now. "I was training ground very hard and now with this responsibility. I will train much more to honor the belt I received", guaranteed Anderson, who gave an exclusive interview to site TATAME.

Obviously, having a BJJ blackbelt doesn't mean as much these days. Come to think of it, Guys like Fabiano Scherner and Conan Silviera have blackbelts, too.

his only losses are to unorthodox subs. he held his own against sakurai when sak was #1 lightweight in the world & neutralized newton during there fight as well

"I'd be shocked if he was even a purple belt. Seriously, he was submitted by Takase and Chonan, there's no way that he's a legitimate BJJ blackbelt."

And Travis Lutter was submitted by Matt Lindland. I guess he should return his blackbelt aswell!

"And Travis Lutter was submitted by Matt Lindland. I guess he should return his blackbelt aswell!"

The difference is that Lindland is a world class fighter with extremely underrated subs (he also choked out Fabio Leopoldo).

The logic holds. My point was that Anderson Silva has been subbed by a couple of guys with very ordinary ground games. There's no shame in getting subbed by Lindland, but getting subbed by Chonan or Takase is a comepletely different matter.

"The difference is that Lindland is a world class fighter with extremely underrated subs (he also choked out Fabio Leopoldo)."

Yeah and Takase beat Carlos Newton and Chris Brennan. I guess they must suck on the ground aswell

Chonan also beat BJJ blackbelts Jucao Carneiro and Elvis.

Yeah you must be right. Silva could not possibly be a blackbelt 3-4 years after those fights.........

Silva's takedown defense really isnt that good.

Hughes would take him down and beat on him until the fight was stopped.

I love how Silva fights, but since when was he this unstoppable force? By beating overhyped Rich Franklin?

"Yeah and Takase beat Carlos Newton and Chris Brennan. I guess they must suck on the ground aswell"

Takase beat both of these guys by decision when they were way past their primes (but you should already know this).

Also Chonan has won a total of two fights by submission and one of them was against Anderson Silva. What does that tell you?

Franklin was NOT overhyped. He beat the hell out of Tanner and Loiseau like nobody else ever had. The fact is he just ran into one of the best muay thai guys in the game which created an awful matchup for him. He will still beat the hell out of 98% of the middleweights out there.
