A world without cops...

I'll agree with repealing 90% of our "laws"

Ideally anything you do to yourself, should be legal. You should be able to own anything you want, laws should be about damages. If you damage another person or their property, that's a crime. If there is no victim there is no crime... Phone Post 3.0

I'm also for repealing piles of laws, but I suspect RS' angle here is primarily just War on Drugs stuff.

Which isn't a bad thing IMO. War on Families is what it is at this point. Phone Post 3.0

Lol there would be a lot of white APCs roaming the gated communities if this were to happen. Afrikaans accents per capita would spike too.

All these things could work if we were all like Scandinavians. They have their shit together Phone Post 3.0

Barbasol OOTFFTT -
Samurai_JB - The mental health issue is huge. Think about a homeless guy that gets arrested for urinating in public or whatever minor non violent crime. They go to jail and cannot post bond. If they are on prescribed meds they are all taken away until they can be evaluated. They cannot stand trial because they are mentally incompetent so they sit in jail for months and months while receiving no or poor mental health treatment which makes them worse. So they just get trapped in the system and most jails so not have the money or training or personnel to properly treat these issues. So by closing all these facilities they just shoved them over onto the criminal justice system. Phone Post 3.0
Wait, a homeless man with mental issues can afford his medication? Phone Post 3.0
He still goes a week with out his medication idiot Phone Post 3.0

The end of times...

Looks great.

I knew several homeless guys who would routinely spend winter months in the boulder county Marriott. Phone Post 3.0

True... But could you imagine the class warfare political shitstorm that would ensue over using private security!?

Wild. Like the old days of the Pinkertons in territory areas? Not quite that bad......but similar I would guess.

I think private areas and businesses would be better off though. Phone Post 3.0

Jesus Christ.

People still read "journalism" in Rolling Stone? Those people should just stick to "news" (i.e., marketing) in the music and entertainment industry.

After the embarrassment and debacle of their "rape" story at UVA, I don't know why anybody takes anything written in that toilet paper seriously.

^^^^ask those poor anarchists at the McCormick factory!

^^^^ask those poor anarchists at the McCormick factory!

I believe this will work just as much as I believe Rolling Stone's gang rape story...

Just saying.

logic672 - Here's a real idea that would go a long way: Revamp the system (Internal affairs, prosecutor/cop relations) to ensure that cops who really do commit crimes, as well as their cop buddies who help cover up, are met with swift and harsh justice.
That would solve the problem. Accountability (lack of) is the issue that allows the bad ones to act with impunity and divides the citizens and police into "us vs them" disynergy. Phone Post 3.0

With the way things are now it would be nice just to have transparency, let alone accountability.

Instead of no cops, what if we made everyone cops?
If we made everyone cops......we would have no cops. Phone Post 3.0

Get a concealed weapons permit.

Now you are your own cop.

If we ALL are "cops" we all carry guns. EVERYONE. That would essentially reduce enforcement IMO. Phone Post 3.0

"Unarmed mediation and intervention teams?

Unarmed but trained people, often formerly violent offenders themselves, patrolling their neighborhoods to curb violence right where it starts. This is real and it exists in cities from Detroit to Los Angeles."

L.A. and Detroit use this? Well Hell, I'm sold!

I really don't see how this could go wrong...

I mean I guess you would have to notify all the various and sundry criminals, predators, rapists, serial killers, pathological burglars, thieves and other assorted sociopaths and tell them to simply "stop". --But then, after that, I guess we'd be all good!

Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
