? about tabata intervals

ok, i've seen a few articles on the tabata intervals...mostly just saying to pick an exercise (ie. front squats or squat thrusters) and do them for 20 seconds straight, resting 10 seconds and then repeating that 8 times for 4 minutes total. ... so, my question is, is this supposed to replace other weight training? how many times a week should you do them? like whats an example schedule for the intervals??

Intervals shouldn't replace your other lifting, but are a brutal addition to your fitness palette. Once or twice a week should be more than enough.

do a google search on tabata and you'll get your answer. It was mad for endurance/fat loss. it doesnt replace strength training if strenght or muscle gain is your goal.

Applying the Tabata principles to a weight training session is a great workout and very tough!

But remember that the original program was designed for use on a stationary bike. I find sprints even more effective!

The Tabata intervals are a form of HIIT and were designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, and while you get a great workout applying the principle to weights its not the same as using the Tabata Intervals on a cardio machine or sprints.
