About the Korean Zombie...

I've noticed there seems to be some confusion about his name.

Here's a little guide to the pronounciation of Chan Sung Jung's name:

His last name (family name) is Jung. That's pronounced with a "j" sound, not a "y". The "u" in Jung is a short "u" sound (think "uh"). Now, think of Chan Sung as his first name. I've been hearing a lot of people referring to him as Sung Jung, which is just odd, from a Korean reference point.

Some Americans call him Chan, which is okay... Better than Sung Jung, at least. If you want to be really authentic, pronounce the "a" in Chan as an "ah" sound.

To recap: Call him Chan Sung or just Jung. Chan is acceptable. Try to avoid Sung Jung...

If all else fails. You can't go wrong with... THE KOREAN ZOMBIE!!!

Sagiv Lapkin -  In summation, the Korean Zombie is THE MAN. The end.

Damn... it sounded a lot more like that ^ in my head!

Thanks for the tip, i hate when i butcher someone's name... feels disrespectful.

I don't think he felt any disrespect at all... It just seems like people aren't exactly sure what to call him! ;)

KZ.

i'm calling him FREAKIN' AWESOME!

that may not have been the most technical fight in the world but man was it exciting!!

the MMA equivelant of a Gatti/Ward fight...

Eventually people will be able to see that he has more in his bag of tricks than just brawling. It's his favorite thing, something he prides himself on, but he can definitely bring a lot more to a fight when the situation calls for it. I think a lot people will be very pleasantly surprised as they continue to watch Chan Sung fight in the WEC.

^^ as long as they don't keep robbing him...

Shug,

Did you ever receive a response from Dana about having The Korean Zombie at the Fan Expo?

Not yet. Hopefully, enough people will bring it to Dana's attention how much they think KZ should be brought to the Fan Expo... (hint, hint!!!)

Hey Dana, i completely and independently came up with the idea of having the Korean Zombie brought to the UFC fan expo.

free shit for my genius would be graciously accepted.

Shug, I have a good Korean friend and have visited him in Seoul in the past. In any case, I've always believed that saying the last name first was also appropriate as in Jung chan sung. Correct?

Actually, this is good to know.  I was going to ask you about this, so thanks for posting.

Yeah, that's the Korean way of saying names... Family name first, then the given name. So, in Korean, we call him Jung Chan Sung.

I say this not only because I could have sworn that when I first met him he said that although in America his family name "Park" came last, and in Korea it came first. But also because as one notices, the most famous (unfortunately) Korean family Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, obviously the family name is first.

Damn, I guess I answered my own question..

Thanks Shug. Are you currently in Korea? I enjoyed my time there a lot a few years back. I was surprised at how westernized Seoul was actually.

Yeah, I've been living here for about 11 years now... And, yes, it is very Westernized!

Awesome! Good to know, always slightly annoyed when people butcher our russian names; glad to learn the proper phonetics.
