I finally had my elbow popped by an armbar, how long to rest it? must I ice it, or anything else before rolling again, or doing strength training?
That's what I get for being out of shape, out of practice, and playing lazy guard during the white belt white knuckle gauntlet and not wanting to admit I got myself caught (little hyper bastard cranked it fast too)
double
No thats what you get for having an ego and not tapping in time. Next time tap sooner. Usually a bone capsule injury like this means two weeks of taking it easy.
cool story bro
nobody can armbar me so i can't help you with dealing with that sort of injury = )
it's been forever since ive had mine pop. not because im awesome, but because i try to train safe and with good partners. ice and heat alternating should help it heal faster. you can be rolling again in days though, with some soreness. But most likely, take about 10-14 days off. then when you come back, heel hook the shit outta that guy
thanks CompanyBlue
thanks for the holier than though, par for the course nonsense UG rhetoric BigEyedFish, thanks and go fuck yourself
Just tuck it in your belt and train with out the arm.
ice it and iburofin for 2 to 6 weeks
We call that "Rick Allen" Jiu-jitsu.
You can still rock & ROLL with one arm
^^^^^
This
so a whitebelt was in YOUR guard, armbarred you, and managed to break your arm?
lol
^haha, no, wasn't planning to go thru a re-enactment, but here ya go John...
we were doing the drill where a few guys stay on the mat and the white belts take turns coming after you, one after the other, near the end of the drill, where some had already gassed and bailed, this one especially spastic kid sprinted at me, I could see he was going to be wild, quickly put him in the triangle when he rushed in, he managed to escape the triangle after several minutes (my fault for being lazy and just pulling on the head instead of readjusting my legs to ensure the tap), kudos to him for escaping, just toughness on the kids part.
There were a few scrambles, I would keep him at bay with my guard, but he would always jump t his feet, erratically jumping, diving, and trying to run past my guard. I was admittedly tired from the gauntlet, previous uke was a new 200 lb blue belt, was being lazy, and just playing guard game instead of going for top position in a scramble, he somehow came out of the fray of one scramble with my arm, didn't think much of it, I started to roll to get out, but he was cranking as hard and fast as he could, I should have tapped a moment sooner of course, but popped the capsule.
Yes, of course, my ego was a factor in me not tapping a moment sooner, but there is a firmly held belief that, for the face of my instructor, my rank, etc., white's should not tap blues, and this is what was on my mind when I waited that extra second or 2

wow glad my instructor isn't like that. Mine says if guys aren't tapping you then your not trying new shit an not progressing.
^my instructor is great, don't get me wrong.
slow your roll, son. big eyed fish is my boy and he's correct.
consider this a lesson.
the key to getting better at this is longevity. that means, injury prevention and control.
that is, for the 2 seconds of ego, you risked 2+ weeks of lackluster rolling. you will have to go easy for a few weeks when you could've tapped and gone hard for two weeks vs. two seconds.
next time, right?
i've been doing this for a decade and am a brown. i still have to watch my ego sometimes, especially w/ outsiders. inside the dojo though, tap and tap often. i open up my game more now that i don't care about tapping.
don't get me wrong. a game purple gunning for me is going to get worked, but if he gets me, he gets me.
on a similar note, at blue belt i competed w/ a sprained knee. won my division and fought off a really tight knee bar.
4 months later i can walk right and roll again. that 10 seconds of ego cost me 4 months of rolling. not worth it.
SA, believe me Im just tryin to save you some of the tough lessons that I myself and a lot of my students have learned. It just aint worth it...
