can you legally drive with a half bottle of vodka in your car? what if its in your trunk ? example you get pulled over on your way to a place you will be drinking, but havent started yet?
Nothing illegal about driving a car with half a bottle of vodka so long as you haven't nipped on it yet (or any other alcohol beverages).
so no open container violation ?
There are states with open container laws, never heard of one that included the trunk.
There are places where it is illegal to drive with a container of alcohol unless it is in an original, factory sealed container.
What's your jurisdiction?
Possibly an open contain problem depending on your state, but that wasn't in your fact pattern. Transporting a bottle of liquor, presumably with the lid or cap on the container = no problem.
There are states where transporting with the container having been opened, as viewtype says, is illegal.

REALLY? Jesus, I cannot envision how this could be illegal to just transport a bottle with a lid on it, but some laws in some states are astoundingly stupid.
