1) Aldo clearly answered the critics on the weight cut - he was clearly in tip top physical form pressuring Moraes all 3 rounds and also taking flush shots from one of the heaviest hitters in the div
It was close: Moraes started off strong of course but Aldo kept pressuring and coming in R1, really looked good in R2 but in R3, Moraes was the one who showed some improvement in cardio and picking his shots, I thought Moraes won R3 and Aldo could not find his shots will still pressuring Moraes
Aldo’s lack of kicking is definitely hurting him for a long time, he is only boxing - tried one kick and Moraes countered - are Aldo’s knees shot? Anyone got some insight here?
Good win for Moraes but Aldo proved he is one of the best BWs - this could have been a draw
Not sure where Aldo goes from here though, it would have been a clear storybook narrative had he taken Moraes out to set up a Cejudo fight where his renown tdd and striking would be a good matchup for Cejudo…
wiggum - Aldo's chin shows that he can keep chipping away at 135. He's two great wins away from a title shot. And can take short notice fights.
You’re right. He let the fight go.
Something has been wrong with his legs since at least the TKZ fight. No more leg kicks. No doubles.
I have to give Moraes credit for not fading away and mentally quitting, he kept on his back but picked (and landed his shots) well in R3. But yes, Aldo took Moraes best shots and he is one of the hardest hitters at BW.
This win leaves the div in a bit of a weird spot, does Moraes get a rematch off this? He did show he can fight more measured and come back in later rounds so maybe a Cejudo rematch is more competitive next time.
Yan vs Moraes would not be bad either depending on how long Cejudo is out.
-It was so weird that Joe was using Marlon resting as a sign that he was gassing. He was recovering from Aldo hitting him!
-I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: something is wrong with Aldo’s legs and has been for a long, long time. It’s why we don’t see leg kicks or blast doubles. If his legs were ok, he would have cut Marlon down as he circled out. It was the textbook opportunity for his legendary kicks, but he just can’t throw them any more.

Shades of Cro Cop. Explosive kicking is a young man’s game.

His punching and trunk/head movement is still explosive tho…
