All Hail the Turtle Defense!

It's the perfect answer to all ground offense. You can't choke, you can't GNP, you can't do anything to it. I think it blocks incoming cell phone calls too.

Man, if Royce Gracie's opponents only knew back in the day.

Perhaps Loiseau can ride this out to a few ADCC stalling victories.

"Man, if Royce Gracie's opponents only knew back in the day."

Back in the day you could stomp, soccer kick, AND hit to the back of the head...

In the early Pride FC too you saw turtling up untill knees and kicks to the head of downed opponents were allowed. Remember Silva vs Sak I ??

THe Crow turtled because he was praying Rich would put both hooks in and try a RNC, so that the Crow could defend and reverse into Franklin's guard for the elbows.

Rich knew this though, so was content to hit him in the side of the head and throw knees to the body.

It also helps when your opponent has a broken left hand so you only have to defend one side

Heh, you're right about all that sprawl.

BTW, did anybody think there were way too many ref standups? Like in Marquart-Doerkson... I mean, at times ground work can become slothful, but Christ, let it go for longer than 20 seconds. Give them a chance to work in their element.

eh.... try finishing a rear naked with a busted hand. Think that may have had something to do with it.

Rich wasnt trying to get his back after a while. He was actually trying to get sidemount or mount by turning Loiseau over. David was giving up his back on purpose.

I think it blocks incoming cell phone calls too.

LOL

"If this is true, then what a sad, sad spectacle the UFC has become. It's almost slapstick."

Hey, I'm not saying I think its a good strategy, but its worked for him before in the past, and it really looked like his only hope in that fight tonight.

The problem is, if I know what the Crow is trying to do while I'm sitting here at home, you know Franklin was wise to it. All it ended up doing was make the Crow look even worse, and get beat up some more.
