Eddie Alvarez is only one step away from getting the chance to erase the last loss on his record.

If Alvarez is successful in his next fight on Nov. 19 against Mike Chandler at Bellator 58, then he will draw Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki in the Bellator cage in the first part of 2012.

“Eddie and I have been talking about that fight now for the last two years. Ever since Eddie got submitted over in Japan, Ed’s been calling me saying ‘how can we make it?’ Now we’ve finally got it done,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney revealed when speaking to MMAWeekly Radio.

Aoki confirmed that he’s also in for the bout when he spoke to MMAWeekly.com last month, and he was looking forward to a second bout with Alvarez as well.

“Yes, I will fight him next year,” Aoki confirmed about the Alvarez fight. “I am looking forward to it.”

easy win for aoki. since getting owned by aoki, eddie has gone on taking and winning easy fights; he'll be exposed once again when he fights a top 10 LW.

Alvarez will destory him. Aoki is the most overrated LW today and is barely top ten.

He has rudimentary striking and decent wrestling. He would lose against most top competition.

Edgar, Melendez, Miller, Cerrone, Henderson, Maynard, Diaz, Lauzon, Guillard, Pettis would all DEStroy Aoki.

That's true, and I doubt it'd be a title fight. I'm just hoping they take a cue from the UFC and make high caliber headline fights 5 rounds. I'm sure everyone involved would prefer a decisive outcome one way or another.

Kind of curious how this plays out in the cage. Props to Aoki even speaking about taking this rematch, I thought he was UFC-bound and would disregard it.

anyway Aoki should be in the UFC, if they do fight its a solid fight, good fight and really the only big fight for Eddie outside the UFC.

They should fight each other, they have nobody else to fight.

You mean the fight 3 years ago? Yeah, Alvarez has improved monumentally and plus this fights in the cage.

Aoki has decent takedowns based from the clinch and has shitty striking. Alvarez will either knock him out or box the shit out of him.
