He won the third round in underwhelming fashion.
The first two petis won, failing to take someone down for 4 minutes does not mean you are winning the fight.
No Pettis lost. Alvarez had the perfect game plan & stuck to it. Showtime didn't do enough in that fight to win.
They should have docked him points for stalling. You shouldn't award that type of "fighting"
Pettis should have figured out a way to stop him, or maybe generate some type of offense with his back to the fence.
IF there was a winner in that fight, it wasn't pettis.
xaeo - IF there was a winner in that fight, it wasn't pettis.
Everyone lost in that fight – especially the fans

Having your back against the fence most of the round won't necessarily win you the round. If Eddie failed to take Pettis down for the entire round then you would have an argument, be he managed to put Pettis on his butt 3 times in that round. Those 3 takedowns will score higher than having zero offense, which is what Pettis had.

It's stalling. I'll "deal with it" by not watching Alverez fight and so will a whole lot of other people. You think the UFC likes that type of fighting on national TV when viewership is dropping as is?
JOESONDO - They should have docked him points for stalling. You shouldn't award that type of "fighting"There was no stalling in that fight. Alvarez was working hard for a takedown the entire time they were on the fence. I agree that "wall n' stall" is a thing, but it did not happen in this fight. This fight had a lot of wall, but no stall

Sure, Pettis looked like crap. However, those body kicks were more than enough to win rounds 1 and 2
ChucoV -Then switched over to Matbattle after? You must be on the edge of your seat when Hendricks is ostriching himself up against the cage too.JOESONDO - They should have docked him points for stalling. You shouldn't award that type of "fighting"I enjoyed watching Eddie impose his game plan.

Fair enough. Then it was deadlocked for most of the fight, with Alverez trying to take him down and Pettis preventing it. Not sure how that is Alverez implementing his game plan – unless it was Alverez's game plan to push him up against the fence without taking him down, in which case it was stalling.
Alvarez won the decision. It was boring and lacklustre, but he won based on grappling and octagon control.
JOESONDO -He did what he had to to win. Fighting to entertain gets you koed. Why would he play into pettis's game? Not every fight will be exciting man. Its mma people will get wrestle fucked maybe he should have done a little more but a w is a w. Fight to win thats itBane170 -JOESONDO - They should have docked him points for stalling. 29-28 Alvarez was the proper score for how those rounds played out.
29-28 Eddie. He controlled Pettis

I don't blame Alverez for fighting that way, I blame the ref for letting him. I also blame the system for awarding that type of fighting. If the UFC wants to keep this thing on TV, they need to put together a better product (that's probably what the Fox execs said to the UFC)
