The first round of Thiago Alves versus Carlos Condit was very competitive and then in the beginning of the second round Carlos Condit landed a nasty elbow that broke Alves' nose and changed the course of the fight. The super slow motion cameras of Fox captured the elbow perfectly:

Alves also posted a picture of his freshly broke news on Instagram and revealed that it will likely require surgery:
duckhuntgangsta - This is why pride rules were better. Fights didn't get stopped because of cuts from illegal elbows.
There wasn't a cut of any signifigance, the fight was stopped because of where his nose bone was sitting in his forehead and his eyes were swelling shut. Elbows are part of fighting, and a lot more a part of martial arts than soccer kicks ever have been. Soccer kicks are something generally seen as thuggish, where as elbowing someone in the face is a legitimate Muay Thai technique.

There's no such thing as a nose bone. The lump on his forehead was just swelling from the impact of the elbows.

Yea-huh! You can kill someone by driving the nose bone into the brain. I think that's why they stopped the fight...
