The first round of Thiago Alves versus Carlos Condit was very competitive and then in the beginning of the second round Carlos Condit landed a nasty elbow that broke Alves' nose and changed the course of the fight. The super slow motion cameras of Fox captured the elbow perfectly:

Alves also posted a picture of his freshly broke news on Instagram and revealed that it will likely require surgery:

The shape of his face completely changed in a heartbeat. That is gruesome.

Elbow. Yes it's an elbow Brian.

That elbow when Alves was against the cage was brutal. Phone Post 3.0

This is why pride rules were better. Fights didn't get stopped because of cuts from illegal elbows. Phone Post 3.0

I think I see what you did there.

There wasn't a cut of any signifigance, the fight was stopped because of where his nose bone was sitting in his forehead and his eyes were swelling shut. Elbows are part of fighting, and a lot more a part of martial arts than soccer kicks ever have been. Soccer kicks are something generally seen as thuggish, where as elbowing someone in the face is a legitimate Muay Thai technique.

Alves is a warrior, but Condit is a killer.

Beautiful destruction. Phone Post 3.0

There's no such thing as a nose bone. The lump on his forehead was just swelling from the impact of the elbows.

Yea-huh! You can kill someone by driving the nose bone into the brain. I think that's why they stopped the fight...

Condit really does have some next level striking.

Very very good.

Against alves no less. Phone Post 3.0

Alves kept getting at it though. I bet he would of gone 5 rounds to his own detriment. Was still trying to wipe Condit out.

I'm shocked that the UG Blog doesn't know what super slow motion is. That was slow motion. Not as advertised...... but it never is with the UG Blog.

Honestly, I expect more from a tenor.
