Also many Americans are clearly adopting British mannerisms. This is because British culture is establishing dominance in America, as American global influence wanes.
Prime example: Piers Morgan.

Hate to break the bad news to you: today's American English - particularly of that in NEW (and improved) England - is closer to the British English that was spoken in colonial times that the British English today.
In other words, today's British English is something completely new and unlike what it used to be like. I'm not an asshole troll like you, so I have no problem saying I like today's English accents, particularly the Geordie and Scottish. Two of my favorite.
Anyhow, please mix a cold glass of bleach and Drano and guzzle it. kthxdie.
British accent sounds like the San Francisco "accent"
Most British accents are borderline unintelligible to someone not raised in the UK. So much swallowing of letters and syllables and ridiculous slang, it's no wonder American English is preferred by English learners around the world.
When I taught in Azerbaijan, my Azeri students constantly complained they couldn't understand their Scottish colleagues (they worked for an oil company). I told them that the problem was with the Scots, not them. The reason the azeris didn't understand was not that their English wasn't good enough, it was too good. In reality, the Scots should have been the ones taking English classes.
