Reddit is not used for conversation. It’s a popularity contest. And 183 posts is about right on pace for a UG fight thread following an overpriced PPV.
Reddit isn’t really a good comparison because there are millions of people and thousands of topics on it, so for those that use it a lot it’s probably convenient to just do their MMA talk there as well.
The UG should be more competitive with something like Sherdog though
They have to blame themselves for not putting in the effort to draw people in. The only original content for a long time was from that faggot that no one liked. Then John Morgan, who’s decent at what he does but doesn’t have a style that’s going to draw.
We don’t necessarily need original content as long as this place could be the front page for MMA news from all over. Like HKP is doing basically.
None of the content on Reddit is original either, it’s just collected from other sources and shared so people only have to stop at one place to read about what their overlords are telling them.
Reddit is absolutely filled with bots and sock puppets also. So while that sticky had however many posts, only a smaller percentage of them were actually humans discussing the fights and related topics.
What’s more is that the mma sub in particular is surprisingly patty cake for a sport that involves life altering injuries as a means of success. Asking “did you even watch that fight?” is worthy of a lifetime ban, let alone anything that could be misconstrued as aggressive.
Many different sites have that news from all over thing. Reddit and Twitter have it + lots of discussion + lots of other subjects. Tapology has it + an excellent fight database + fantasy MMA. Sherdog has it + a fight database + lots of discussion + original articles, podcasts, a sportsbook, etc.
Just news from all over alone wouldn’t be enough, though it would be an improvement. They need to do a lot more to make new fans.
I’m going to start my own MMA website and off-topic message boards with hookers and blackjack.
Actually, forget the website and message boards…
hahahaha good post
reddit seems so weird, maybe i have the wrong settings or whatever. every thread is like discussion around an article. i dont see random chat threads. maybe I’m missing something (read: who fucking cares)
Which casino is the first meeting in? I’ll be there!
I’m going to be honest, I don’t want to be a part of any group that posts 2,500+ comments about a $50 PFL event full of UFC undercard rejects from 8 years ago.
Nobody watches PFL, 183 is actually very good lol
