Anderson Silva - Jon Jones: A Brutally Honest Look

Jones would have to finish him in the first couple rounds imo. You give Silva time and he'll find an opening. Jones really just may be too physically strong though Phone Post

Briefly skimmed, and I will read the rest later but the point I saw about Jones having the advantage standing because of reach seems odd to me. Silva is known for matrixing people's strikes. Not staying away from them but dodging them like fucking Neo. How dose that play as an advantage to jones? Phone Post

Do people still think this is gunna happen?Dfw isnt gunna feed his champions to eachother, all talk and hype which is typical.Silvas too small for Jones,Silva can and has made 170,given time Jones has potential to dominate in HW..and Silva..I'd enjoy seeing him fighting new competition at ww. Good points.

I think Anderson outstrkes Jones, but it doesn't matter. That fight ends with Jones on top of Anderson.

Haha I was but that extended to "No. I'm not writing about it because it will never happen."

Great article. As always. Phone Post 3.0

Jack, what do you think about the eye pokes? At the very least is there any reason to have your hand open and fingers out near your opponents face? Phone Post

Anderson would make Jones look like an amateur. Phone Post 3.0

I was actually torn between writing this and a piece on eye pokes.

There's a long history of sticking or flashing the lead hand in the opponent's face as one retreats - and you could do that open hand in boxing gloves but you're not going to gouge anyone's eye.

Look at Jersey Joe, Roy Jones etc - they'll all stick that lead hand in the opponent's face as they retreat to hide the right hand. Cro Cop used to do it in K-1 and then he did the same thing against Mustafa Al Turk and ended up eye gouging him.

I think it's definitely worth a look at a later date. Could bring in a design that cups the hand - like the WKF karate mitts - but I think fighters would really dislike it.

Edit: I'm doubling all day =S

Quality counter analysis...

Thanks Jack.

I really don't understand why people want this fight so badly when most people would agree the most likely outcome is a beatdown from Jones. How is a one-sided fight the most anticipated fight in UFC history???

I don't have the knowledge to really technically break things down, but Anderson Silva floors people on the feet without the huge reach advantage, Jones regularly has a 10+ inch reach advantage and still gets hit. I have to think Anderson could put one of those shots where it counts and drop him.

How many people has Jon Jones dropped?

How many has Anderson dropped without the reach advantages Jones has?

Unwariestpickle - Good write up.

After seeing Jones throw Cheal Sonnen around like a child... I would say the outlook for Silva is bleak.

Anything is possible, but Jones has the tools to win this.

Lol at this "throw him around like a child"

Words are silly things. Phone Post

Couldn't you do that just as effectively with a closed fist? And personally I think if they would just start actually penalizing people as soon as they break a rule (eye pokes, grabbing cage, etc.) instead of just giving a bunch of warnings as if the fighters don't know the rules, you would see the problem go away pretty fast.

I would enjoy a write up on all of it though. Phone Post

Jones basically knocked Machida out into a guillotine. He wobbled Jackson with a counter left hook, he hurt Rashad a couple of times.

He fights safe, but he's very capable on the feet.

This is kind if what I'm thinking. Give Silva 25 minutes and he will land something nasty. Jones would need to finish him imo Phone Post

I'm kind of leaning towards this...

One takedown a round, or maybe even one at all, could spell victory for Jones, but... everything you said I agree with. Phone Post

Well, that elbow that got Rashad was pretty sneaky and Machida ran right into that punch.

I'm going to need some gif evidence of rocking Rampage with a hook lol. I remember Jones avoiding engaging him on the feet for the entire fight. Not saying you are wrong: just not sold on that one. Phone Post

Opening seconds of round 4 I believe.
