ankle popped from toe hold

I let a toe hold go to far and my ankle popped pretty bad. Saw the Dr. today and didn't get much info other than its not broken just a bad sprain and to stay on crutches until the pain goes away. I'm sure I'm not the first to have this happen, what should i expect for time till full recovery/ time off the mat?

have u ever rolled ur ankle badly playing basketball. pretty much the same thing.
if u can put weight on it and walk, then strap it and start training again with no toeholds

Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago.  Made a nice CRACK sound from the tendons getting stretched out.  Its just a sprain, will hurt a little bit but you can train after walking it off a bit.  Takes about 3 weeks for it to be close to 100%.

Tap very early to any footlock as it will sprain very easily again if its not fully healed.

I would pay good money for that to be my main injury.

Wrap it and keep training. Phone Post

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I went to see a specialist podiatrist and he said the ligament was torn. I was offered a cortizone injection but turned it down. he gave me a special foot brace which was more expensive than the basic one you can get from the regular doctor, but worth it. I think I wore it for 1.5-2 months. There was a period where I could only limp when walking but it eventuallfu fully healed.

I had this when trying to replace my guard from getting passed. My right foot was at his shoulder and he used it to keep me flat but when I threw my hips in it cracked so loud. I kept training but next day I was in a shit load of pain and now it just hurts to stretch. When you guys say wrap how are you wrapping? Or what brace/ wrap are you using ? Phone Post

i cant believe you went to doctors office for this.

you guys have a lot of free time

Going to the doctor takes up a lot of time? Phone Post

Usually about 2 to 3 weeks depending on how much you I've it and let it rest. Probably good to get an ankle brace, nothing serious just a slip on one from sports authority or whatever, and wear it for a couple months. Phone Post

After 2 weeks, I still couldnt walk on it. it took me an hour to see the doctor, hardly needing a lot of free time.To Rival School, i tried just using a tight bandage and then an over the counter brace, but it didnt help. Once I got the specialist brace it got much better. I forget the make, but it had a double layer of laces, which stopped my ankle from rotating at all. It made a big difference and it started to heal rapidly after that.

stop being a pussy.

I go knew popped female a heel hook. Took months like 4-5 for it to get back 80%. I still hurts some times and that was 8 months ago. I'm very paranoid of any waist down submission. I wrapped with ace real tight till it was blue pony thing that helped in classes

typically i would agree that the doc is a waist of time but on this one i wanted the information on how to aid in the quickest recovery. time off mat is more of a waist to me than time at the doctors.

that being said my doctor was not helpful at all.

Ice and tape. I had the same thing happen in a sub only tournament. Got caught in a toe hold and straight foot lock. Popped a bunch. Take it easy for a few weeks and you'll be fine. Phone Post

I would actually stay on it but be light while it is healing... I have had both ankles pop from this. as well as sprains from soccer. The toe hold actually catches the ligaments toward the front of the ankle vs a typical sprain is the ligaments near the back of the ankle.
Your ankles will likely be very 'loose' for awhile. The problem is that the partial tears make it even more vulnerable for getting hurt again and worse.
