Wonder how ISIS feel about this.

With media focusing on fighters calling each names, it is awesome to see coverage of someone who is bringing things up. I was as guilty as everyone else about the fighter name calling focus. The thing is, no one cares about positive news. This thread will likely die, or people will start arguing ignorantly about Islam.

There are plenty of people who care about positive news. It's just the media knows the quick buck stems from superficial low-brow negativity so they don't bother promoting the positive stuff and gladly alienate all of those who would rather see it. So those people go "elsewhere".

Having a write up in Time Magazine with an interview like this is certainly huge. I certainly would like to see more stories like this on the front page.

Quality over quantity Kirik, take the high road more often and stick with some positivity. Good read. Phone Post 3.0

Brother I would love to.

As it is, I put up the news that I know people want to read, and put in really cool stuff like this because I can, because people are already here to read whether Miesha's boobies make takedowns easier. If positive stuff was all I had, it would be dead.

As it is, we don't do crime stories except in extraordinary circumstances. We could easily do five War Machine pieces a week, but instead have done three, total.

I really don't know what the right answer is, so I am putting it out there.

Kirik,

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, "Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can't save all these starfish. You can't begin to make a difference!"

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, "Well, I made a difference to that one!"

Thanks for posting!

The right answer is to go with your heart, and not care what the UG thinks. The UG forums are big enough that news feed articles not existing aren't gonna mean things like Mieshas boobs won't be discussed at length! Get back to making news feed articles about important mma stuff, like this superb article. A start would be to have a better picture loading up than Ronda modelling, however good she looks, this isn't anything to do with current mma which has 3 great cards tonight! Phone Post

Saving starfish was not how she eats.

I did the Rousey TMZ hottest athlete vid this am. Chris saw it last night,, and this morning after he saw I had put it on the front page he IMed me that he just couldn't do it. I put it up, and tried to be funny. It will get twice the views of this one.

I really don't know what the solution is. I try to mix the genuinely intesting and elevating with the ones that are stupidly compelling. What do you do when you are a tiny, tiny, tiny company is a fiercely competitive space, in a world where TMZ.com gets twice the uniques that NYTimes.com does?

How about a choice of two front page news feeds? MMA News and MMA Media. One for articles about fighting news. One for articles about MMA fighters outside the cage, or the tmz section if you will Phone Post

This is great news. She is gorgeous, as well.

I meant that you do your best, come what may. Work, in earnest, to do your best, and if relatively few gain from the stuff you feel is most important, then so be it.

Either that or start grilling and eating starfish. I posted it more than five minutes ago, so I am now a bit fuzzy on exactly what I was getting at.

IMO it's not an "either/or" scenario, but illustrates the benefit of combining both approaches:

1. save those you can (giving & doing good deeds), and

2. open up a grilled starfish stand, which will feed others and pay the rent.

IMO the world will become a better place when we start living more this way, on a large scale.

also, great and interesting article!

gluestick - nice politically correct pick. i guess they couldn't find a gay miniority muslim. still, 2 out of 3 aint bad.

The fuck are you talking about, you retard?

any relation to Tim?

Me too. She beat something of a prospect in Ana Julaton recently and I'm definitely excited to see more of her. The fact she's got a unique story makes it all the more worthwhile.

I don't blame Kirik at all about wincing before posting this. Still, I think there's a silent majority, or at least a sizable amount of people anyway, here on the UG who thinks like we do -- and want to see this kind of athlete get more of the spotlight. We should probably speak up more.

More Islam rammed down our throats. Organizations are so concerned with PCness and not offending Moslems - who are offended by everything - that you do stuff like this.

Indoctrination in the entire school system, Moslem president under taqiyya and Islamic political system embedding itself in America.

Keep sipping those lattes, burying your faces in your smart phones and white knighting Islam - while it gains in power and turns America into a third world nation under Shariah Law. Phone Post
