The UC Davis program has been dropped, joining Cal State Bakersfield and Fresno State - all Division I. What is happening with California college wrestling? Is the same thing occurring in other states as well?

I go to UC Davis and I saw this the other day. I wonder if Urijah Faber has contacted the University, seeing as he's probably the most visible alumni from the wrestling program.

California is now literally bankrupt. Since these are all state schools this must be the result of cuts in funding since wrestling, sadly, is not profitable at the University level.

fiercedragon - but somehow women's teams survive when only 2 programs generate revenue(uconn and tenn basketball) even the wnba has never turned a profit and relies on nba funds...
The some how is due to Title IX, which requires the university to have equality for females sports. Instead of adding female sports, they cut male sports in order to be in compliance.
