You know; I was a huge advocate for a long time of Fedor doing what he wanted to do. I really wanted to him sort of stick it to the man and get his money... but after time passes... more and more...
He is.. literally becoming irrelevant. I find myself thinking less and less about him and more about the current prospective HW's. It really does seem as if Fedor not joining the UFC is going to ruin his last years.
What matchups really matter now to him outside of the UFC? Fedor vs Overeem. Fedor vs Barnett. I mean you could say Werdum but that's just about to happen. After that, what?
At some point he almost has to give it up or join the UFC. They have the stranglehold now...
That is just how his team wants it. They want him to be the legend so folks will always say, "Well, Fedor retired undefeated" years from now even if his last years were spent fighting with no real challenges. They saw what happened to Nog and Crocop once they stepped out of PRIDE.
Fedor could retire today and his legacy would be intact. But the UFC is where the best HWs are and he's going to have to face them eventually.

I for one would be happy. MMA is better being a monopoly. Maybe not for the fighters but for the fans it is. All the worlds best under one umbrella is a lot better for the sport than people think.
Look at boxing right now with all the different titles and orgs, it honestly makes no sense to the casual fan, and too many different title fights, water title fights down to the point that no one cares.

There is a big difference.
Any boxer can potentially fight any other boxer.
Different sanctioning bodies(WBO,WBC,etc)dont prevent that from happening.
But a UFC fighter cant fight a Strikeforce fighter.
He should be ranked number 1 RIGHT NOW....Do I think Brock, Dos Santos and Cain can beat him? Yes
Over the next year, if Brock, Cain, and Dos Santos keep winning while Fedor is stagnant and/or not fighting top 5 talent, that will change..
But for some people, nothing will ever change. As long as Fedor is undefeated (no matter what level of opponent he is fighting) He will always be the best. No matter how fast Cain, Brock, and Dos Santos (and the sport in generall) are progressing.
