Antarctica - any of you been there?

I've got a "bucket list" of visiting all seven continents before I die. I have the next 2 months "free" more or less to travel, and figure now might be the time to do it. I've been to 5 of the 7 continents already, but still need to hit South America and Antarctica.

So any of you guys ever been to Antarctica? How crazy expensive and inconvenient is it to travel there?

Worst resort ever. The beer was warm and the food was cold. Phone Post

Hmmm looking like this time of the year (winter down there) it might not be possible...then again it is cold as fuck down there anyway so does winter really matter?

Before you go there you might wanna read up on Ernest Shackleton. I recommend "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing. Understanding what the crew of Endurance went through and then see the Antarctic for yourself would be awesome. Phone Post

Upon further research it looks like there is no "tourist travel" to Antartica other than Novemeber through March...oh well.

Fantastic read...I have been there..nor have the means but my advice would be to get one of those National Geographic trip books... they have tours all over the world with high quality guides and specialists...if its gonna be done..its worth doing right with a knowledgeable crew Phone Post

A gentleman that my father in law knew was on the trip with Shackleton. In fact, my father in law used a rifle of his to shoot his first deer. Recently, he bought a book on that expedition and is fairly certain there is a photo in the book of the rifle. Phone Post

My farher was there in 1954 with Operation Deepfreeze. Admiral Byrd even showed up for no reason.

Sub for research.
