Anthony Smith vs. Aleksandar Rakic

bradu -

Wow, shoulda been a barn burner and both guys were content with just lay n pray for 13 minutes

Well, i dont think you can blame the guy on top for that...

Ministry of Truth - I never expected Rakic to dominate Smith in a grappling dominant fight. Impressive.

He’s considerably stronger and just laying on him. If he had a clue he’d stand up and finish the damn fight. Nothing impressive other than his physical assets.

You obviously don’t grapple.

Lol

I have it 29-28 Smith.

Then again, I had $200 on Smith.

lol

Dude celebrating before the fight was over instead of trying to finish his overmatched opponent was cringe inducing.

Well it makes sense after that little outburst at the end. Rakic was nervous to be there and thrilled it’s over or he’s a literal retard.

I’m happy for Smith and his brain that Rakic was too stupid to KO him like he easily could have.

lol

Can Smith wrestle?

He can, but bad decision making gets him on the bottom. Let’s see if he threatens with any subs, I am confused by what has happened in this fight so far lol.

Smith is doing all he can. Rakic has a huge physical advantage. It really can’t be understated. That said, Rakic simply doesn’t know how to fight mma yet. Just one bad decision after another and he’s still winning lol.

Yeah but the wrestling was opened up because of the striking game of Rakic. It’s not like Rakic got lucky. Regardless of his physical strength (which is part of MMA), Anthony should be able to use jiu jitsu technique to get his feet on Rakic’s hips and try to sweep him, open up his guard to look for a submission, etc… Rakic is on top now and just landing shots at will. Sure he doesn’t have a great IQ but that’s to be expected. In this fight we are seeing he’s been working his wrestling, which is what he’s been saying in his interviews. He’s got a purple belt in BJJ. The kid is legit, give him some credit.

He’s tough for anyone. So was Brock Lesnar. Physical gifts mean as much as skill, sometimes they mean more.

I mean Smith just falls to his back, then nothing really happens....Magny is more fun to watch...

Smith is a skilled grappler and he’s got nothing for Rakic on the ground. It’s not exciting but it is impressive.

This. It’s not like Smith was badly hurt. Tonight, he had nothing for Rakic, either on the feet or on the ground.

Lion heart quit on himself tonight.  He felt those kicks and accepted the bottom position the rest of the fight.  Craziest surrender I've seen in a long time at this level.  I think Glover stole his heart.

Never should’ve fought until 2021. That beating from Glover was as bad as it gets.

I guess he's just Anthony "Lion" Smith now

Yeah that was lame. The fight had so much potential for excitement, they sure did make it boring.

Since hearing he couldn’t put out the 170 lb home intruder, I have trouble believing he’s gonna beat a man that cuts to 205

He beat the living shit out of a guy who was cracked out his mind, who also happened to be a high level wrestler in high school. To be clear, Anthony Smith beat the shit out of him. He just couldn’t knock him out and didn’t wanna choke him because the guy said he was armed so Anthony didn’t want dude reaching in his pockets. I don’t know if you have any meth heads where you live, but those motherfuckers are superhuman. I’ve seen plenty who were completely unfazed by tasers and could probably take a brick to the head. Anthony did just fine lol.

Tell me about it the fucking idiots on here try to play it off like it was nothing, Smith looked completely off due to the fact that he came back way to soon.

It was him too. He could have kept the fight standing and gone for a finish. Yes, he got an easy win. But a big finish would have got him a lot more heat, potential bonus, etc

Ya, the fight was horse shit. Congrats to Rakic, and bummed for Smith who I really like..... yet I did bet on Rakic..... but the fight sucked! I have no doubt he could have finished the fight on the feet fairly easily tonight, given the way the 1st round went. He did well, no doubt about that, but he likely could have elevated his stock even further with an exciting finish. Smith's leg was well on the way to being seriously gimped.

Smith looked so bad a high school wrestler could have manhandled him

It’s pretty obvious that strength isn’t all is takes, but okay dude whatever you have to tell yourself. Rakic dominated Anthony Smith on the feet and on the ground. Smith is a top level guy. On ESPN+ Chiesa and Rashad are explaining how Rakic dominated the grappling, you should watch it.

Every fight this seems to happen. Time to find s new nickname.

What? Anthony Smith is literally one of the toughest motherfuckers I’ve seen fight in the UFC. He took a savage beating in his last fight and criticized those who said it should have been stopped earlier. If anything, his toughness has taken him places he likely would have never seen in his career. If you’ve been watching the sport, you’d know this.

I never said he didn’t control the grappling. I said he should’ve stood up and knocked Smith out.

Also, you just said the commentators are doing their job. You really think they’re gonna be critical of a rising star after a win?

Yeah he should have kept it standing but maybe he wanted to showcase his skills. Or maybe he has a bad IQ. Honestly, who cares? He had a great performance. Those aren’t commentators, they are analysts. They were giving a technical analysis, not a performance rating.
