Sir Roy,
Heard you experienced some freaky/bizarre Aning-Anting experience in Manila. Tell us what happened and I'll make an account of my own experience.
TOBY
Lets wait for Roy Harris' reply, and I'll give you mine. For those who don't believe it, we can bet $1000. Fly with me to the Philippines and I'll try to hook you up with guys who use these talismans.
Toby,
You can read about my experience with
anting-anting on this page:
http://www.royharris.com/findArticle.do?docId=285
The gentleman who demonstrated his
anting-snting was Samuel Ilustrisimo, a
grandnephew of Tatang.
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't see it with my
own eyes.

"While I was there at the picnic, I got a chance to witness, firsthand, someone's anting anting. Boy, was that an eye opening experience. I watched this one Pilipino gentleman show me how his anting anting protected him from harm. He took a steak knife and proceeded to rub it vigorously against his forearm. I saw him press the blade into his skin and make a valley where the edge of the knife was touching his skin. I then saw him make a series of pressing cuts to his forearm (with the same indentation in his skin). I saw his arm move from side to side because of the friction created between the knife and his skin. He did this for about 20 seconds. Next, he took the knife in a reverse grip and began to repeatedly stab at his forearm (maybe 15 or 20 times). Now, the most amazing thing about the whole incident was this: He did not bleed! When he finished cutting and stabbing at his arm, there was no blood. NONE! This was one incident I will never forget!"
My own experience was this. Back in '95, our high school required us to go on an immersion program for the poor villagefolk farmers who live in the provinces. We were went to Bulacan (1&1/2) hours away from Manila. We lived there for 4 days.
Anyway, I've been hearing about anting-anting all the time but never believed in it till that day in Bulacan. The Bolo/Itak/Machete is a common tool among most Filipino farmers. Let me tell you that these are kept very sharp most of the time. Anyway, this farmer picked me among the whole group of students to demo his anting-anting.
He told that he'd stick his arm out and I should try to hack his arm away with a Bolo/Itak. Of course I was hesitant because the Itak was fucking sharp! I tried to hack-away some cogon grass and you would see that it cut through easily. Anyway, the farmer told me to shut the fuck up and do as he says. So I tried to slash his forearm with all my might . . . NOTHING! No amputated arm. No blood. No nothing. I tried to repeatedly go at it again but nothing.
Each and everyone of my classmate's jaws dropped. Its just something that could never be explained by Western Science.
i wanted to tell this story before but was certain that I'd be ridiculed at. Oh well. Roy Harris experienced something similar to that. And I honestly think Tatang had anting-anting although no one really knew if he possessed such powers.
It would be interesting if someone can make this work in resisting chokes or joint locks. I mean if it works against a blade it should be possible to work against chokes and joint locks also. A very interesting topic.
Just no blood, or was there no cut either?
Zero1,
I have no idea of how it worked. I just know what I
saw.

Comedian,
If you this is a magic trick, can you show me
another magician who does this kind of trick? You
see, I am practicing to become an amateur
magician. I have been involved with magic for
about five years now. I have several friends who
are professional magicians. None of them know of
any other magician who can vigorously rub a
sharp, stainless steel knife against their skin,
much less stab at their arm and cause their skin
to indent with each blow and then NOT bleed.
I would like to know if you know of any other
magician who does this. If you know, please let me
know. If you don't and this is your opinion only, well,
then it is your opinion and we will leave it at that.

rene.r,
When he initially rubbed the knife against his skin
and then poked it several times with the blade,
there was no visible bleeding. All that I saw were
chaff marks, the kind you get after something
rough (like sandpaper or a heavily startched gi)
had been rubbed over the skin several times.
However, after I went back to training, I came back
to the table where he was sitting and observed a
few small drops of blood on his forearm where he
had poked himself. These drops of blood looked
like he had pricked himself with a pin or needle.
Other than that, he only had the chaff marks across
his forearm where he had rubbed the knife. (Keep
in mind, we had just used that knife to cut up the
beef!)
Very strange.
Roy Harris
I asked the guy if he could do that in combat in a live, full speed manner, and he said NO bec he was concentrating hard on his forearm not to get cut.
There was no cut but I saw the guy applying ice on his forearm. Probably got bruised up pretty bad.
Comedian,
Wanna bet $2000? I'm in for this. I ain't kidding. Or better yet, I'll take you to my house in Manila. I'll give you a chainsaw. Try cutting our Kamachile (fruit) tree. If you don't feel any invisible force that would stop you, then I'll pay you $2000. No questions asked. Maybe you want to ask what happened to my dad's German friend back in '89 when he didn't want to believe that such powers exist. He took an axe to make a cut at the tree. He was screaming in terror from what he saw. A big "kapre" (giant) held him in the neck and my mom and the security guards in our place (though they didn't see the kapre) saw the 6'4" German being lifted off the air by an invisible force. Out of sheer fright, the guy peed his pants. hahaha! He never returned to the Philippines again. He said that there's so many weird and bizarre stuff going on there that Western Science can't explain.
Many times, we wanted to have that Kamachile tree cut down because it interfered with renovating some parts of our house. All the construction workers who tried making a move either got sick suddenly or were knocked out unconscious.
I know you guys find this absurd and downright ridiculous. Even some Filipinos don't believe in this shit. But I know what I've seen and I'm telling you guys: There's some weird stuff going on back home.
Thanks Roy.
There are Chinese Qi Gong (Chi Kung, Hei Gung) 'tricks' like that which I have read about, and of course the famous Shaolin (Wushu) monk demos where they bend spears on their throats. Those are tricks, however (people can go learn them at the Shaolin Temple Tourist Resort :)
Still impressive discipline.
