Trying to find Ricksons punch block sweeps but the only footage I can find is him and rockson instructional(non detailed) and his seminar video where he briefly displays a scissor sweep off the punch block series.
I seen some footage but nothing that breaks down the details so here are the sweeps I've seen him use so far.(maybe one of his blackbelts will put a video out on these).
Ricksons Sweeps seem to be from stage 2 or stage 3 or the punch block series.
#1 what looks to be a Roleta sweep after blocking strikes effective.
#2 Rickson seems to hit a scissor sweep in the seminar footage and the Rockson footage.
It would be interesting to see more of Ricksons punch block series if possible from all the other stages after listening to his recent interviews on the subject of guard play.
Thanks in advance
I was always under the impression that Rickson's Vale Tudo Guard was more concerned with defending against and preventing strikes then finishing with basic submissions as opposed to looking for a sweep!

Here is another video of Steve Maxwell teaching some techniques from the Vale Tudo Guard that I uploaded yesterday. Although Steve got his black belt from Relson, he spent a lot of time learning from various members of the family and credits Rickson with the Vale Tudo Guard series!
Nice :) ^

The open guard series is basically what Big Nog did during his Pride days. It's become more difficult in MMA because fighters have gotten better at passing and dealing with open guard in general.

hmm
BTW, Cole Miller's sweep was awesome! I think Carlos Condit did something similar in an UFC too.

It will be interesting to start seeing more people trying the Eddie bravo style guard in MMA.
Seems great in theory but haven't seen it pulled off much

He may credit Rickson......but IMO that is straight up Relson VT. I suck at jiujitsu, but my foundation is heavy Relson VT style and I augnent with stuff I learned from other souces to tweak strikijg, clinch, etc.
There is other techniques using the guard involving hip movemnt, knee shield and upkicks, etc. Also some other techniques using heel kicks, passing, back attacks, side control and standup. I show stuff to people who have never learned it in jiujitsu and some are brown belts and they trip out. Which is why it boggles my mind when Im told on the forum what jiujitsu is and isnt......just LOL!
A couple of years ago, Relson and Rickson were on the mats together at the Valente Brother's academy in Miami. I was there on Saturday and we did mostly jiu jitsu based stuff but on Sunday, they focussed on Vale Tudo. I wasn't there on Sunday, but a friend was and told me that they got on the mats together to discuss the effectiveness of different guards for Vale Tudo.
Here is Relson, playing the same guard as Maxwell, trying to make a point about how he likes to play guard.
