Does he hand out belts pretty easily? Serious question. I just read of a guy in one of his affiliated schools in Mexico go from purple to brown in 18months! Not judging but that seems too fast for a guy who trains in an area(Mexico) that doesn't have much BJJ. I'd see that possibility if he trained in an area where there was more of a BJJ scene and he had plenty of guys to push his level.
I assume you mean Roy Harris?
If so, he is legit.
Roy Harris is legitimate badass and reportedly a great instructor. 18 months purple to brown does not seem unreasonable at all. Hell, if a guy is talented, trains frequently could this not be done in less time?
18 months from purple to brown is totally reasonable. Roy is an incredible grappler, teacher and person. Why dont you worry about your damn self and getting better rather than what other people are doing? If your pissed about not having a certain rank then work harder and get there. So tired of people questioning legit guys who earned their rank especially when you clearly dont even know Roy. This is why people like Roy dont post here anymore.
Roy Harris is the real deal
Without any hard evidence that this affiliate is useless on the mats, you are going to get met with a lot of hostility here. Roy Harris is as legit as they come.
Swift in 3...2...1...
Hahaha on the Swift comment.
Boo!!!!!
Roy Harris is da man! LMAO!!!

Roy Harris is indeed legit. I've seen some of his video and they are solid. The consensus online is he's a good guy and worth training with.
In the OPs defense rapid promotion is an indicator of charalatanism more often that competent instruction. Nothing wrong with getting an opinion from the online BJJ hive mind.

Thanks for that, that's why I asked. I came in with a question and a doubt, and I'm leaving with an answer from the forums BJJ community. My BJJ knowledge couldn't answer that. No need to get upset, I meant no harm. Thanks guys.
This is everything i expect in a thread...
1) a little animosity because of how the OP presented it...
2) the reverent comments from guys who know the subject of OP's post is legit
3) the call to arms of notorious Roy Harris' opponent
4) the arrival of notorious opponent
5) despite not being a huge fan of Roy, notorious opponent choses a joke instead of bashing...
Listen guys, we all know that not every instructor in the world has world class guys... As a Roy Harris purple belt, i have seen guys 10x better than me and guys 10x worse all part of the same family. Im sure we can say the same for the Gracies, and many others.
This is a prime example of letting the community help disseminate truthful information rather than letting myths perpetuate.
Another reason i love this place.
I am amazed someone would make a post in this manner without knowing who Roy Harris is in the first place.

I am done bashing Roy Harris. I think everyone on here knows how I feel about him. If they don't than they haven't been paying attention, :-)
Roy is a great guy. One of the most technical teachers I ever met......

Who said I didn't know? I'm not questioning who is Roy, granted I did misspell the name but I know who the man is. My question was in regards to his belt promotions, that's all.
.
There are parts of Mexico that have plenty of bjj. I know of several great schools in Tijuana and Mexico city. 18 months may seem like a fast promotion from purple to brown but there are a lot of factors that you might not know about. This guy might train twice a day five days a week. Mr. Harris has a very detailed testing policy so I wouldn't say he hands belts out at all. He definitely makes his students demonstrate their proficiency, I think you can even see one of his promotions on YouTube
