I go to Brazil this thursday for 50 days to train and do the worlds. However, the guy I was supposed to be staying with is already down there, but to due a emergency hes having to come back real quick.
I'm going to be training at Gracie Tijuca while I'm there so I was thinking about getting a place right by the academy so I wouldnt have to travel real far to train. Is Gracie Tijuca located in a good area?
Also if anybody knows other good places to stay help me out, I appreciate it.
Barra de Tijuca is on the coast to the west while Tijuca is in zona norte (as opposed to zona sul where ipanema/leblon/jardim botanico/botafogo/copacabana is). Its the same area as the Tijuca tenis clube, where the mundial is hosted.
Gracie Tijuca is on rua sao francisco xavier if i remember correctly. The subway stop isnt far from there so you could prolly find a hostel in zona sul (which is alot nicer) and just take the subway every day. Although copacaba kinda sucks due to tourists/hookers/crime.
Tijuca is nowhere Barra (well by Rio standards as the city is small compared to say Sydney or LA).
Wal, imagine Barra being Maroubra, Copacabana being Bondi and then Tijuca is like Parramatta.
In the two years i lived in Rio, I only went to Tijuca for the worlds, and then came back home. It's a big suburb though. I met a hot chick that lived there. But i told her "when you come to south zone, to go the beach, give me a call!" most of my mates were the same. only going "past the tunnel" when we had to.
yeah, i guessed that, as our instructor said the tennis club is about a 40 min drive. he has to drive there every day during the mundials, and then compete on his day
