Don’t ask Chinese people about eating cats and dogs! In China, a friend asked our Chinese translator and she was so offended, it was a very uncomfortable moment in my life.

I'm a Marine embassy guard, and one of my buddies I was in South Africa with is serving at the consulate there now. He said it fucking sucks. According to him, if you're a tourist there for a short time you'll probably enjoy it, but it's a shitty place to stay long term. Dirty and crowded.

Is there any reason why you want to move there?

You can teach English for $3,000 a month in Beijing and you will be much more comfortable. I personally like Shanghai since it is more international and modern. I think Chengdu might be boring.

It is dirty and the food it not so great. Try lots of different places and find Chinese food you like. You will not find western food fit to eat there. Phone Post 3.0

If you have an iPhone download the taxi-book app (they may have it for android) it has a lot of places around the city for westerners. It'll give you the address in Mandarin to show the cab driver. eat like a local. Do not try and get western style food its not good. The fast food places like Mcd's and pizza hut are better than home. But it's still fast food.
