Heading to the northeast next month, any insight would be great.
Sub'b. Plan on heading there in March, huge Marcelo fan
What do you want to know?
this guy did....

I'd be driving in to the city, I'm curious if I'm better off parking outside of Ny some where and taking a train in or if there is parking near the academy? Also what are the odds of getting to roll w the man himself?
When Marcelo comes into the academy he walks around and greets everyone. Marcelo will smile. He will notice you are visiting, and will make sure to roll with you when it's time to spar. After the roll he will smile again, but you will have the uneasy feeling that deep inside, he got slightly bored by rolling with you.
Assuming everything always happens the same way as the one time I visited the place.

Spot on. That's hilarious. And dodgeball if you get lucky.

I don't know where you would park. I would take the subway. Odds of rolling with MG are pretty good I would say. I have rolled with him 3 times
As horribly boring as it would be for him, I would still love to roll with him
BENDOver and Take it Like a Diaz -Park outside the city. Be prepared for a brutal warm up.
Aw man :( thats one thing I hate, hard warmups, I find it takes away from the actual training, and I say this as someone who's in good shape

It does.
It decreases the rate of learning to learn in a highly fatigued state.
The warm ups are not too hard, and I'm pretty sure Marcelo knows whats up when it comes to how intense a warm up should be.
If you are visiting in January they should be in the new space on 26th street o the west side.
Marcelo teaches 2 classes per week day, one at midday and one at night. The rest of the classes are taught by either Paul Schreiner or Henrique Rezende, both are excellent teachers.
I think there are visitors in that gym every day, I think it's a very welcoming school to visitors as it gives Marcelo's students a feel of different games.
Be nice and be prepared to train hard, you'll have a great time.

I'd echo everything said here. Warm ups are not bad at all and usually are pretty fun. Visitors are always welcomed, come with a good attitude and you'll have a great time. I'd be sure to take a class with Paul and/or Henrique too. They may not have Marcelo's fame, but they're both amazing teachers in their own right and each brings a really unique perspective on Marcelo's game and bjj in general.
Anyone know why the school is in a temp location with a reduced class schedule?
I've visited before and echo what the others have said. Best BJJ training atmosphere for a vistor I've experienced.
And yes, I rolled with Marcelo and some of the other black belts. They're all amazing.
The old place flooded out by a pipe that busted above them or something
Haven't been here yet, but like others have said try and get a class with Paul or Henrique, I have mginaction and I find there videos great, a lot of times they go into greater detail than what Marcelo does, or just different details which makes sense because they are teaching and breaking down his game
who is the rickson BB that Marcelo was rolling with?
