I don't know if I'm doing it wrong but I've yet to see any benefit from it.
I'll be honest, I haven't been using one long, but I noticed an improvement after about 3 days. My entire back including lower feels much looser, and I find it easier to maintain posture. I use it on my quads and hams too
Blunderhooks - Not only no benefit but it injured me! I went over the top and would foam roll for 1-2 hours at a time in front of the TV. Don't do that!I'd say on average it takes me less than 10 minutes, so yeah I'd say over an hour is way too much lol.
5 mins at a time is enough

Newb question but where do you find how to "use" foam rollers.
There are a lot of vids on youtube.
If foam rolling isn't doing the trick use a piece of pvc pipe to roll on instead.

If you're not getting any benefits you're either doing it wrong (watch a youtube video) or you are complete devoid of muscle/tissue problems. :)
And while regular foam foam rollers are ok, I second getting a 'real' one. I use this one from trigger point therapy. $40, but it's the diff between a honda civic and a ferrari 458. Hard pastic inside so it doesn't compress/break down. The grooves hit the muscles much better than the smooth foam rollers.
I use a PVC pipe. Tried a rumble roller when I went to the elitefts LTT seminar and it was brutal. I need to get one of them

tristar -It was pretty awesome. Meeting all those guys was great. My group for the lifting day wasn't the greatest tho. Like other groups were going for PRs and really getting at it but our group didnt. But for the most part it was a great experience. I definetly wanna go againkyle47129 - I use a PVC pipe. big_slacker -So you notice a big difference after using the one you posted? I have a regular High density one I got off amazon, which had great ratings, and it really has been awesome but wouldn't mind trying something better

Yes, huge difference. WORTH THE MONEY. Well, I got it as an x-mas gift, but I'd buy it knowing how much better it as.
As for the placebo thing, I beg to differ. There is a noticeable and measurable diff before and after rolling. A great test is to do a deep bodyweight squat and sit at the bottom, AKA the 'village squat'. Then do a lower body session and repeat the deep squat. Your hips and calves especially will be a ton looser and it will be much more comfortable to maintain the position.
I bicycle commute 12 miles a day in addition to longer rides on the weekends. If I do a long ride sunday then forget to do a rolling session the night before I'll be generally stiffer and slower (measured on strava) for the next day's ride.
If foam rolling is a placebo effect then so is massage therapy.

I use a rumble roller. It takes some getting used to, but it absolutely helps to loosen things up. The nubs really get in there and work tight muscles.
