went exactly as expected
The same level of certianty can be used to predict that GSP wouldnt be able to finish Nick.
Nick has never been finished. Why get upset with GSP for not being the first to do it?
sureshock - What the fuck?
GSP wiped the floor with Diaz. He took him down almost at will.
He didn't wipe the floor with shit, he won by controling Nick on the ground.
As far as damage goes it was fairly even. Nicks strikes that landed seem to be getting ignored.
For every two shots Nick landed GSP would land three, he wasn't beating Nick up but he was definitely out pointing him.
GSP won but it was a far cry from a ass stomping.
yabadaba -
Yes, GSP clearly won but I thought he would be much more dominant.
Yeah, me too.
IDOHARM -Diaz has a superb guard and he pretty much nullified any damage that could be delivered on the ground, as expected.
GSP was able to outclass him on the feet as well though, which nobody seems to want to acknowledge.
I'm not sure I'd call it outclassed but it did seem to me like GSP was landing while Diaz was missing quite a lot.
Porkchop - I was actually surprised to see Diaz so flat in the standup. He looked awful on the feet. But that is mostly because Georges controlled the range like always and it was good to see him get the better of those exchanges.
I don't think anyone can make a case for Diaz getting the better of Georges in any area of that fight.
"I don't think anyone can make a case for Diaz getting the better of Georges in any area of that fight."
I agree with this.
Gritty - GSP looked a little gassed earlier than normal. Wonder if he is overtraining?
Yeah he did look that way.
I think he looked worse than usual in many areas.
Especially his GNP but I'd say that was to Diaz's credit.
Bad Monkey -
I am surprised that he didn't get cut up with short elbows while on his back, and that he held his own and, imo, was winning the clinch battle. His face is usually fucked after a fight. After that fight he looked like he was ready to get buttered up for a photo shoot.
Was also surprised he didn't open up more after he started stuffing takedowns when GSP started slowing. When he was throwing, he was winning, when he was waiting, he got jabbed up.
Yeah I thought his face'd look like hamburger after the fight.
I don't know why he didn't throw more.
I was hoping to be more surprised by Nick's performance, since GSP's overall game plan came as a surprise to no one. It was the first time in a long time that I didn't see improvement in Nick's standup game, which is to take nothing away from GSP who did a good job with his lateral movement.
HighFreq -It is rare that you see someone defend that many GSP takedowns.
Exactly this. I thought GSP would be 100% in his takedowns.
Though Diaz would offer more esp granted the amount of time they stood.
The middle fingers of NickDiaz - Diaz stuffed more take downs than i thought he would.
But his ground game off his back was very dissapointing.
I wasn't expecting Diaz to get anything done of his back because of GSP's top control etc, and he didn't but he got closer than I thought anyway.

He was and he admitted it and he said it was weird too. Thing was, Diaz also looked gassed. Those 2 guys never get tired so.....
Also, this is the first possible time Diaz seemed to sorta give up or seem mentally defeated in a fight.
everyone knew it would be gsp by decision. gsp won by decision. gsp won by being gsp. even if nick challenged his manhood, gsp stuck to his gameplan and won. good for him.

good for him... bad for the fans.
Also, this was supposed to be the fight that made GSP fight, Diaz didnt really make that happen even though he had his chances. He did well in stuffing some tds though.
Hendricks will take GSP down.
Hendricks gets to train at Oklahoma State daily under John Smith, Kevin Jackson and Coleman Scott.
Nuff said.

True as that may be, GSP is not Condit either. Hendricks will not have near as easy a time setting up those tds as he did Condit who just came at him too over extended all night and the way Hendricks set up his tds was good but good enough to get GSP down in the way GSP controls distance? I expect him to td GSP down but it wont be easy.

Kevin Jackson is the head coach at Iowa State so he certainly isn't training with Johny daily at OSU. Iowa State University is responsible for bringing the 2 best collegiate wrestlers of all-time (Dan Gable & Cael Sanderson).
Oklahoma State has certainly done a good job in pioneering the transition from wrestling to mma with the 2 Rosholts and Hendricks. I too believe that Johny has a very good chance of taking out GSP and look forward to seeing GSP having to fight again as he won't be able to take Hendricks down easily (I hope).
