Any fans/critics of home schooling the first 5 years of school? I'm getting closer and closer to pulling my daughter out of kindergarten to teach her at home until middle school.
We decided to try public school after visiting the private schools. At that age, we didn't want religion taught like it is the only option. I want her to know it, but know there are other theories as well.
Also, the fact I am considering teaching a 5 year old how to protect herself is insane to me. The amount she has had to grow up the last 4 weeks is sad. I know they need to grow up, but losing your innocence to the raw underbelly of our society at 5 is a bit early for me.
I've gone from telling her to use her words next time when someone snatches a cookie from her lunchbox, pulls her hair band out of her hair, or any other sort of bullying to thinking she needs to perform a show of force. She's not a pussy at all. She is a rule follower, and doesn't live in the same environment a majority of these poor kids do. She's a mark to them, and it's driving me insane.
She has friends, a social life, and none of it is from school so far.
Chimonos Revenge - Do you have any background in education?
So you want her to be home schooled because you are afraid of her being in public?
No to both, but did well enough in school to be comfortable with teaching elementary. Not cocky, but they have lesson plans. You also get a chance to learn more hands on.
I’m not afraid of her being in public, I’m afraid of sending her to a building where she saw another 5 year old boy slapping a girl classmate continuously while she was screaming and crying because he thought she had his pencil.
By proximity, we have a diverse school district. It’s more of a lottery then where you live. We are considering moving, but not at the moment. Even so, it takes a while to move, and we don’t plan on being in the same state in 5 years.

Man you are extra douchey today, having your kid in a public school you don’t really like for 7 hours a day 5 days a week and being in "public" has nothing to do with fear, dude loves his little girl and that’s perfectly fine.
Everything about his OP seems fear based
I get it, i have a daughter too. I have some similar concerns.
Just don’t think that makes a great decision to teach your kid at home when you have no experience doing it.
I’ve met people who try to do this, and think home schooling will be easy, and completely fuck it up in my opinion.

I don’t think I’d home school but I’d get her the hell out of the school she’s in. Move if you have to. Don’t expose your angel to the dregs.

Noted. I don’t think it will be easy at all. I have other shit going on too. The thing is, I would drag myself naked through glass for her, so sitting in a climate controlled house making learning fun doesn’t seem so awful.
When the school called and told me about the incident, I seriously forgot she was 5. I was considering teaching her about beast mode at that moment, but not this early. I can’t have her Bobby Hilling everyone either.
We may look into private school while we are still stuck here. It’s still an option as well, but not the only one. I just don’t want to fuck her up. She’s my 1 and only.

I can’t speak for the education level or anything else like that, nor about how hard it is. I have known some home schooled kids that didn’t totally line up with their grade level when they entered public school, so they got put back a year.
If you do decide to home school, definitely make sure your little girl is in plenty of activities and / or plays with other kids a lot. Have seen too many kids that young get home schooled that a really hard time adjusting when they entered public school at a later age when social pressures, cliques, and the like now became the norm.
I totally understand not wanting your daughter to have to put up with bullshit 24/7, though.
Maybe teach her a few “moves of doom” (lol), have her lay out the next couple little asshat kids that fuck with her, and see if that puts everyone else in check?
I know it’s a shitty situation, but it might be the best / easiest answer.
What do we know, though - we’re all on the intrawebz and none of us are in your shoes.

Good luck, OP.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I’m doing more of a Karate Kid approach with her. Always leave your thumb outside your fist when you bump, rotate your hips when your throw, work slower when you are mad, shit like that.
This has thrown a wrench in my plan for sure. She’s a sweet girl, and want her to be like that at least a couple more years.
My buddy and his wife are considering it with their son. I told him if he wants his boy to grow up to be a socially awkward weirdo who never gets laid then go for it.

I completely get it. I didn’t have to deal with that shit that young, but when my daughter entered middle school, she started having to put up with shit.
Kids talking shit, wanting to fight her for no reason, offer her drugs, etc.
After a couple/few weeks of the 6th grade, we had a long talk. She didn’t know how to respond to this stuff and I told her to settle her business. Don’t go starting anything, but if some little hussy wants to give you shit, put her down.
“But I don’t want to get in trouble.”
“Kiddo, if you’re in the right, I’ll completely back you up. Don’t worry about what the school says - I’ll go down there and raise hell myself if they punish you for sticking up for yourself.”
She seemed to carry herself with a LOT more confidence and such after that.
The bullshit never stopped, but it sure didn’t seem to affect her the same after that.

that depends more on the parenting than the schooling.
I home schooled in high school. Not much has changed since then.
“also where do you get the curriculum?most I’ve seen charge for money”
The school district let us use the books from the high school for free. Also, text book makers come out with new editions on a regular basis to make more sales. Used copies of last year’s book are dirt cheap if you want them. If you join a home schooling group, you can other people’s old homeschool books for next to nothing. Take your pick.

If anyone’s worried that OP’s daughter will never be able to get laid, I guess I’ll have to explain to you how the world works.
You'll end up with a person who has no coping skills or conflict resolution skills when with her peers because daddy isn't there to help her. Stop being selfish.
Half those kids parents are in prison right now. If I gave you an orange jump suit and put you in the cell block with them, what kind of coping skills do you think you’d learn?

This is what I’m worried about, and the image I have in my brain. It’s too early for this shit as much as it is to force them to pray and fear death.
