I have a space for training Tuesdays and Thursdays and lay mats each day (3 classes each day). I have to lay the mats each time. Not complaining tho', it's a great space.
This in in addition to my main academy.
Its at a first grade Rugby Union Club and I am already getting some of the players come to train.
One of my lil' students...
Anyone visiting Sydney is welcome to come train!
I did in my first space which was an office, after hours.
I got reaaaaaallly good At slapping those things down fast.
That said, I'm very glad I've got a more permanent space now.
.
Use to at old location. Wasn't too bad because a few guys showed early and helped.
Very upscale training there in Sydney.
Had to when I was a white belt. We were inside of an aerobics room in a health club. Had to store all of the mats in a storage closet about 50 ft down the hall. Had to bring them in and set them down before and after each class. Sucked because guys started purposely showing up 10-15 mins late and/or leaving 5 mins early. Luckily, we moved to a new location a couple of years later with permanent mats.
I had to do that at my first place, but we had barely any mats. LOL
I did take classes at one Judo club where we had to do that every day. The mats were down when we arrived, but the adults class was the last one of the evening, and then we'd have to pack up all the mats (40 x 40 or so) onto a dolly and wheel / carry them down two long hallways and stack them neatly in a closet. It took away from the training, because we'd start late (kids always ran over, and then parents had questions), do a big ol' warmup of calisthenics, continue warming up with matwork (which wasn't what I was there for, as a BJJ guy learning Judo), and then sometimes work throws, before we had to stop early to pack the mats up and be out of the room on time. The classes were nearly free ($25 per 10 weeks), but I wasn't getting what I wanted out of it. It was a shame.
We used to when we shared a space with some kung fu guys. I used to think of it as grip practice at the end of class putting all the mats away.
Used to at the old Judo club I started at before it burned down. After the adult class was over everyone would pitch in. Around 1800-2000sq' would be stacked and put away in 10min.
Used to do back in the day - it sucked big time. Heavy as shit after training.
