Thinking about getting one second hand as a daily. Looking at an 06, for around 6 gs. Anyone own one? How is the fuel economy, and is it fun to drive? I live in the mountains, so awd is a must. Was considering an Audi or Subaru
Its a 2.0 manual.
12-13 year old A4? Hmmm.

Yeah. I'm still a student at the moment, so I'm not buying new right now. Unless you have any more useless comments to make yourself feel better about yourself, fuck off and lick my taint.

You’re reading quite a bit into what I posted. Was just curious. This being a discussion forum, sometimes the discussions evolve in a nonlinear fashion. I had some follow up thoughts based on what your earnest reply would be. That didn’t happen. Anyway, good luck.
If you're still a student, buy a toyota corolla or camry.
Fuck ever buying an Audi that doesn't have an existing warranty.
ive owned several, and S4s
if you cant afford a new one or a recently new one that is under warranty then you cant afford one. Im not trying to be a dick. You will have high repair or even just maintenance costs. These cars go through wheel bearings when they age for starters.
bad idea
I had a 2000 3.0 quattro . I loved that car . Had an awesome interior . Engine was underpowered though. Not sure if the smaller engine with the turbo is better but I expected more from a 6cyl. That aside it was a great car , especially in the winter when the all wheel drive comes in handy. I want to add that I agree with other posters and don't think it would be wise to buy one that old. Expensive repair bills and even mine at 4 years old had things needing repair quite often .
Never buy euro that is out of warranty unless u can wrench and have hookups for parts
Otherwise ,they generally drive nicer than Japanese
Buy a 10yo + Honda crv or Toyota rav if u need the awd
If you are asking about fuel economy, you can't afford to fix it. Get a subaru
Great handling cars with the turbo their pretty quick. As others have said maintenance can be expensive.
All good points. I was asking about fuel economy because I wanted to know how it compared to the b5 s4 v6. I was originally planning on getting a wrx that was a few years old, but was worried about the head gasket issues that plague subarus. But given the feedback here, I'll most likely stick with a subaru, unless I can find a b5 that I can have as a project.
Consensus here is that you’re too poor for an Audi. Get a bike, like mihow.
I've owned two B7 A4's, the engine in that 2006 if its a 2.0.
A4’s are great cars… while under warranty. You will not have this luxury. You will be plagued with play in your turbo, massive turbo lag, boost leaks due to torn DV’s and/or wastegate issues that will need adjustments. Your cam shaft/followers have known mechanical issues. Burning entire quarts of oil every 1000 miles. Your coolant thermostat will go out every 40k miles or so and is already probably causing issues for the car unless the previous owner was OCD with maintenance. You’ll puke at the cost of new engine mounts when the car starts shaking like you’re on horseback, or even the labor cost on control arms/bushings. You’ll be embarrassed to drive with anything to your sides as you will hear the echo of the knocking that never goes away.
I loved those B7’s
I drive a B8 S4 now.

Literally nailed it..... Worst year and half of my life was owning my b7 a4..... Non stop issues and the oil burning... That's not an exaggeration. Look elsewhere OP.

This guy knows what's up. That B7 2.0 has a mechanical fuel pump driven off the camshaft. Over time it wears out the camshaft lobes until the lobe breaks. Then you're in for a big $ bill. The Subaru's unfortunately are not without their issues. Between the two cars, I'd take the B5 1.8T. Near bullet proof engine and a great AWD system. Light years better than Subaru's. Stay the fuck away from the B5 S4s. Massive money pits. The turbos just don't seem to last and require engine pull or subframe removal/ drop to get access to the turbos. Labor bill on that job is more than the car is worth these days.
Any german luxury car will be expensive to maintain. They are a blast to drive, but expensive to own. Go japanese or korean, and even there, avoid the high performance upgrades usually offered. Thats the stuff that adds to maintenance costs.

Sorry for being a dick, I genuinely apologize. Was having a bad day, and was quick to jump on someone for nothing.
You can’t afford it
