Anyone successfully trained through tennis elbow?

I got rid of mine for about a year and then it suddenly came back. Very annoying as my strength training was making good progress.

Conventional wisdom is stop training until it goes away, even if that means a year off. But some gurus like Mark Rippetoe say that's bullshit and never works long term, you have to train through it and eventually it will get better.

Has anyone managed to work around/through it successfully?

Rippetoe says he rehabbed his with chin-ups. he claims for him and some others the china make it worse initially but then it gets better. I'm nervous to try this though as in my case I think it was chin-ups that caused it in the first place. Phone Post 3.0
