I know his grappling is great, but I feel like Condit can end it standing at any time
I think Condit needs to catch Maia coming in with a knee or something big or Maia will close the distance and drag him to the ground repeatedly. 5 rounds is good for Condit so he can work his cardio advantage, but I don't think it'll be enough
good fight! Carlos better catch him at teh begining of the round(s). Maia can take down 99% of people and keep them there. Im glad he back in BJJ mode too.
I think it depends largely on Condit's approach and the key will be pressure. He needs to keep Maia moving back and away and on the defensive. If he is too tentative and respectful of Maia's wrestling, he'll likely get smothered and submitted like everyone else. If he's able to realistically threaten Maia and come after him constantly, I think he'll have more success.

Condit has amazing take down defense and stand back up extremely well after being taken down. Maia doesn't move backwards for the most part. Always coming forward looking for the takedown. He has really focused on the wrestling aspect of his game in the past few years and it has paid dividends.
I hope Maia keeps winning just to spite the UFC.

Maia definitely has a chance. Making it a 5 round fight though definitely gives Condit an advantage though
Let's just be happy Maia fans aren't Diaz fans.
Because Condit will be using lots of range and movement and we all know what happened around here the last time he did that.
Of course he has a chance.
He's got great takedowns and ridiculous BJJ.
But Carlos only loses to the best in the world, so it's a really hard fight for Damien.
What Maia has going for him is he gets everyone to the ground somehow.
Maia is extremely durable on the feet and he will grapple fuck Condit once he gets him down.
Absolutely, if he gets a hold of anyone I'd give him a chance. Condit is tricky and I'm sure he'll have something up his sleeve.
I definitely think Condit is a strong favorite. Though he hasn't faced a grappler like Maia (who is a grappler like Maia?) he hasn't been submitted since 2006. And although he hasn't shown it much lately, in the past at least he has shown a very crafty jiu jitsu game. He'll have the cardio advantage by a country mile, and obviously the will have the striking advantage, as well as the killer instinct.
That said, Maia can catch anyone. It's a very interesting fight.
Maia has gotten everyone down (besides Silva) regardless of sty le, wrestlers, strikers, etc...
If you chase him you're going down. If you back up you're going down. If you pin him to the cage, you're going down. If you sprawl, he'll pull half guard and you're not getting back up again.
And chances are greater with him more than anyone else, if you go down, he's going end you there.
Condit is lanky with an active ground game that has shown success against everyone else, but no one's ground game has been enough to stop Maia so far.
In fact Maia just choked out Matt Brown who is very similar to Condit. The only thing that worries me is that Maia is on a 5 fight win-streak, and the longer a streak goes, the more nervous I get. Even then, his last loss was to Rory by decision.

Samoa -I strongly disagree that Condit has amazing takedown defense. I think it's imperative that he manages distance with strikes and disallows Maia's offensive wrestling.kennyfrommd - I think it depends largely on Condit's approach and the key will be pressure. kennyfrommd -Maybe I need to go back and watch some CC fights. I considered his ability to keep the fight standing was a definite strength. If he doesn't show this strength against Maia he is going to lose for SURE.Samoa -I strongly disagree that Condit has amazing takedown defense. Maia will shock the world. He takes this
I'm picking Maia come fight time. Will control the whole fight en route to a comfortable decision victory.
