Anyone use a body scissor?

I've heard many things in the past about using a body scissor. I've heard that some guys have died from internal injuries due to the effects of the body scissor. There are many stories in the past of Stetcher having a crushing body scissor and that if he hooked you in it, it was over! I believe a body scissor is actually illegal in amatuer wrestling but I could be wrong.

Has anyone ever used this? I've used this a little from the bottom when I've tried to escape from the bottom. I'm in the front body scissor and try to sit up to take the guy's back. Something happens and I get blocked but instead of just going back down to the front body scissor; I just lock on a body scissor instead. Many times they don't tap but it distracts them long enough for me to get a better position or be able to take their back cause they forget that's what I was going for to start with.

I was thinking the other day of MMA applications for this hold. You lock in a body scissor where they are lying on their back and you are on your side with your legs wrapped around their stomach and low back. Basically, the classic body scissor. You overhook the near arm and just start squeezing and pounding away with hooks from your far arm. They would only have the far arm to defend with and it wouldn't be enough to protect their entire body. You could punch the face and the body while squeezing the air out of them.

For better idea, if you have the AESW Vol. 1, go to page 392. Notice the position he finishes with on page 394, that's the position you would want. Just start pounding away with that other arm and his defense would be extremely limited. Just make sure your legs are correct :)

I'm far too short legged to make the body scissors a major weapon. Shane Tucker did use it a good bit and with decent success.

If you allow your opponent to keep both arms near his torso the scissors isn't real effective. Be sure to control an arm and keep it as far away from his body as possible.

Yeah, I think controlling an arm is a must if you plan on pulling off, effectively, any scissor movement. Even with the head scissor, if you don't control an arm, they can get out pretty easily just by rolling out.

I had the bottom scissors placed on me this past week.I tapped quickly from it .I thought for a minute I had a broken rib.I pulled it off friday on one guy ,but he was very skinny. The next guy was around 200lbs I didn't get him. It's a hold I need to work on ,to say the least.

My Dad taught me as a kid to apply a body scissor and crooked scissors to the head as well...I later learned in judo that the FBS is called Dojime, and is illegal in most Judo contests because ribs are broken easily.
