Anything to speed healing of....

Hello,

I injured my foot on a poorly thrown kick about a month ago. There was swelling and lots of stiffness originally, couldnt bear weight the next day. I can do all motions now with it and have basically iced it every night. I have also gotten some A.R.T on it.

The only motions I cannot do are if I were to lunge forward and have the injured leg be trailing (whilst on the ball of my foot). Also, throwing uppercuts properly where I would pivot on the ball is painful. Sitting in someones guard I can't do either. Basically all grappling and wrestling is out right now

Doc figures its a sprain of sorts. IS there anything extra I can do here to speed healing? I usually heal from little injuries quickly, but this is bugging me and goin a little to long for my liking.

I have got Xrays and there is no fracture.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Somebody answer this man I have the same thing!!!!

Ice it several times per day and especially right before you go to sleep.

Also, omega-3 fatty acids have shown to have a mild anti-inflammatory effect.  Of course you could take an OTC anti-inflammatory, but they kill my stomach, and there's some studies that suggest they may inhibit hypertrophy.

Use Traumeel....It's a pain remedi that a lot of european athletes use....
Also it is very important to tape an injuri extra well while working out untill it is completly healed.

I have found in my practice that the best natural healer is the following cocktail. Take 1 gram of glutamine powder, 1 gram of arginine, 1gram of ornithine, and 1 gram of lysine prior to bed on an empty stomach. (no food for 2-3 hours prior to bed) Also take this same cocktail upon awakening. You can increase the dosages by twice the amount once your body adapts to it. If you are still working out, you can an a gram of glycine to this cocktail and it will enhance your workout capacity. I have used it on people who are wanting to recover faster from exercise, illness or injury and also on people who have been seriously injured in car accidents. Glutamine in and of itself is a great immune system enhancer. You will know it is going to work if after taking it before bed you have a good nights sleep with a lot of dreaming. (a good indicator of oxygen getting to the injured body parts) Try it and let me know how it works for you) My e-mail is wahedden@jayco.net. Best of luck.

Sounds to me like you have some adhesion between the extensor tendons and the retinaculm. This may have been created by swelling of the ankle or muscle spasm to protect your injury pushing the tendons up into the retinaculm. There is always the possibility of more extensive injury but you do sound clear of that. Get it cleared out by a qualified therapist.

Thanks guys, the pain still remains at times, only in the arch really, but it has dulled a lot. Still fragile I think, have to take it easy still.

Why the pain is in the arch may be related to compensations from your injury causing overload and tighting in the muscles of the arch. It may be pain associated with being flatfooted which indicates you are overpronating and stretching the tissue on the bottom of the foot. If this is the case orthotics help. If it is a muscle issue you need some muscle work to lengthen the muscle.

I've had orthotics for 10 years or so.. could be a muscle issue.

Could be a muscle issue. Could be a connective tissue problem if your orthotics are failing you. Have you had them refitted in the last two years? Also can you describe your pain on the bottom of your foot. Does it hurt near the heel or in the middle of the foot? Can you put weight on it first thing in the morning? What relieves the pain? Does your foot cramp at all?

Sounds like you have some muscles inside the foot that are remaining chronicly contracted. You need them to release before your recovery will be complete. Go see a massage therapist skilled in the use of trigger points, preferably one that specializes in the lower limbs and feet. (Do NOT go to a reflexologist - totally different mode of treatment, and not what you need.)

Defender..Just got new orthotics 5 months ago, dull pain that seems aggravated in twisting motions (the way you'd pivot your foot when throwing an uppercut), and also in local impact... Near the middle of the foot along the arch, and up to the forefoot. I can bear weight all times of the day. The pain is not constant, only situational. Foot never cramps.

Go a musculoskeletal specialist or physiotherapist. Because there is some utter crap on this thread.
