I'm a fan of both Hellboy and Aoki. Both guys are awesome...
But did Aoki get kinda screwed in his fight with Hellboy? The fight was stopped early after Hellboy kicked Aoki in the nuts with an upkick while Aoki was standing in Hellboy's guard. Was still really early in the bout, but Aoki was winning up to that point.
After the stoppage, Aoki and Hellboy were re-set in the standing position. I don't know Dream's rules, but shouldn't have they been re-set with Aoki standing in Hellboy's guard?
aoki should play soccer
Did Thompson get screwed in the Kimbo match?
he shouldve used the crackhead control,or the zombie.or the new york...
HELLBOY just owned him!
inf0 - Don't think he was screwed.
HELLBOY is just that good.
Hellboy is awesome, no debate. UFC failed in not signing him.
But Aoki had ducked Hellboy's punch, cleanly got the TD, and put Hellboy on his back before the nut-smash. Shouldn't have they been re-set in same position?
aoki grips the gloves a lot so a kick in the nuts is a good punishment
gripping the glove is cheap and illegal
There was a LOT of ball kicking going on.
I did think about that when it happened
I was thinking "why are they starting standing?"
And how 'bout that gi choke from Akiyama...people bitch all the time about Aoki's grip-tights, but I haven't heard the cry of bullshit on that one yet.
If I ever fight in DREAM, I'm going to wear my martial art's traditional garb of spiked shoulder-pads.
Isn't gripping the gloves against the rules?
cyclically it was time. :(
some guys have grip strength
if there fingers are not latched into the glove like a handle then its legal
roll with some jiu jitsu guys with good head and arm control
it wont make sense how they can hold on
"if there fingers are not latched into the glove like a handle then its legal"
At first I thought that Aoki was illegally grabbing the gloves too, but looking at the fight again it looked as though he was okay. He didn't hook the gloves illegally. Seemed to be grabbing over the entire glove/hand, which is legal.
On a side note...I sense a strong hatred of Aoki by many on this forum. Is it because he wins without striking? Or Is it because he's dorky, Japanese, and doesn't fit the image and stereotype of what most TUF-taught American fans have come to define as a 'typical MMA fighter?' All of the above?
alvarez probably feels screwed, but no ones fault really.
fact is he beat hansen, and Hansen ends up winning the GP via easier opponent in alternate match Black Mamba.
I guess a rematch shoudl happen, the firs tone was a good one, and wa scompetitive.

The ref was calling for "action" before the illegal kick. He was getting close to standing it up anyway, and chose that as a natural break in the action to restart standing.
I don't believe in restarts at all, but I wasn't surprised that he did it.
If anything, the thing that went against him is that Hellboy got a quick win in his first fight, while he had to struggle with Uno for 15 minutes.
Yah, they should have started them again with Hellboy on his back.
Oh well, I wanted him to win this whole thing anyway...big fan of the Hellboy.

Exactly, where are the jap-conspiracists on that this one, huh?
Seriously though, thats how GPs go. I do agree, it would more fair to have the finals on a separate night like they did with the Pride LW/WW GPs (Gomi/Mach, Dan/Busta).
But remember all those who made such a fuss about Rampage/Wand in the GP finals and what happened in the rematch?
Gomi went to war with Kawajiri, Azeredo literally walked thru Kotani and we know who won that next round.
At least it sets up the rubber match between Aoki and Hansen and also the real final between Aoki and Eddie and even Eddie rematches with Kawajiri and Hansen, esp if Aoki beats Eddie.
i feel JZ not being mentioned is a shame
that fight was as close to a draw as any other
