Are there dives in high level MMA?

A friend of mine is convinced this happens quite often in MMA. I think it may happen but not with main card guys. Not talking about the brass giving orders and making it WWE stuff. But one fighter going into a bout and taking a dive...perhaps because he put money on himself to do so and would make far more than he would winning.

Not trolling but opening up conversation on what I feel is an interesting topic. The sport of boxing has been known to have guys dive.

I don't know for sure if there are dives in American MMA (isn't it documented that there were staged fights in Pride? Seems like Big Daddy said that he was offered a bribe to take a dive in a fight but didn't take it)

The only one in particular that comes to mind is Rich Franklin vs Ken Shamrock.. I'm a big Shamrock fan but that was fishy.. Phone Post

Ken came from the Pancrase era were there we works as well as dives. Coleman vs Takada was a complete work. Japan back in the day was dodgy. What about now?

Of course, there are dives in all professional sports, too much money to be made. I don't think it's a big problem though, probably happened a handful of times

One loss in the ufc is a big deal and detrimental to your career, which is why it probably doesn't happen all that often, especially as the money has gone up. But in the history of the ufc, definitely

I don't think there are any in major MMA organizations today, they would be too obvious because of how talented fighters are today (just like how that Coleman fight and Ken's fight with Rich were pretty obvious) Phone Post

Honestly im a huge A.S fan but the way he toyed with Forrest in the fight and when Forrest fell and threw his leg up was really fishy. But then again anderson toys with everyone.. Phone Post

It's so easily done. I've seen a few times where it's obvious the fighters looking for a way out and gives an easy submission. Phone Post

That is sometimes just a fighter being mentally broken, but it would be hard to discern that from an actual dive for profit

I think this is usually a case where a fighter is broken and giving up, rather than participating in a fixed fight. Phone Post

I think that Anderson didn't feel threatened by Forrest so he decided to have fun in the cage with his sways (and I really dislike Silva).  The reason Forrest fell is because his jaw was already broken before he was hit with that punch.  I read somewhere that his jaw was broken and he went for broke by throwing a big flurry, which resulted in the counter-jab which ended the fight.  Not a work.

Forrest had no injuries from the Silva fight, he was knocked silly and started flailing - he sat backstage with Amir Sadollah and cracked jokes during the entire Penn/Florian fight afterwards.

No.

There were dives in early UFC / Pride fights.....but much harder to say now. Phone Post

GSP takes a dive in every fight, but his fucking opponents keep laying under him!! Phone Post

that looked fishy, and I don't know if it could be classified as high level mma, but it was probably the headline.

There's money involved, so of course. Anyone that says there isn't is a bit naive.

I thought Ken clearly took a dive when he fought Buzz Berry in England a few years ago
