Given that Diaz became part of MMA infamy in 2011 by missing a pair of news conferences for what was going to be a title fight against St-Pierre, which caused UFC President Dana White to yank him from the fight and replace him with Carlos Condit, his attendance on Wednesday came as a welcomed event in the sport.
White on Saturday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that when it came to Diaz's disposition for the Wednesday press and fan event at Montreal's Bell Centre, which hosts the March 16 fight card, he was on his game.
"Not only did Nick come, he was on time for everything – I'm pretty sure he didn't miss any flights," White said, a reference to the flights Diaz missed that forced his absence from the aforementioned UFC 137 press conferences. "He couldn't have been cooler. He came there and did what he had to do. He even stuck around and did pictures with the fans after. It was cool."
Diaz probably ate a few MJ-brownies/cookies before he got on the plane. Stayed frosty and relatively friendly during the required press conference.
When he fights GSP he will no longer be getting his recommended daily dose of THC and he will be back to the snarling, anti-social, bird-flipping, Stockton-bred lunatic we all know and love (or hate).
If I had to bet money, I'd bet on GSP, but I am damn sure rooting for Nick.
fapout - Diaz is gonna retire after this beating..just watch.
Nope. Diaz will not be joining Cole Konrad on the list of "fighters who retire as champions", sorry
No need to apologise to me. Diaz got his ass handed to him by COndit so bad that he threw a sucky fit and said that he was retiring from mma. GSP can back after being off for over a year and handed Condit his ass. Nick has absolutley nothing for GSP..nothing. You know it and so does most ppl who follow mma.
Diaz is retiring after this fight....watch.
Bullshit,
First off I didn't see GSP hand Condit his ass standing or on the ground for that matter, clearly he won but it wasn't as dominating as you claim.
Standing it seemed fairly even between Condit and GSP but Condit had a completely different gameplan to deal with Nick and that was to point fight and keep out of exchanges, he didn't seem to mind exchanging with GSP and almost won the fight.
I would say that Condit is a more nimble fighter than GSP and that the gameplan he used to beat Diaz is not a strategy that suits GSP's abilities.
On the ground GSP won via positional advantage, still with his elbows Condit kept it close.
MMA math doesn't work because of variables, they don't seem to be accounted for if they don't bolster ones opinions.
Regardless Condit and Diaz are two different on the ground (where most of the gsp fight was spent) to give the fight merit.
Condit vs Diaz was a close fight and Condit vs GSP was closer than GSP fans want to admit.
I personally like this new Nick Diaz. He is showing personal growth. I know a lot of people easily dismiss him for acting ''normal'' but i myself am impressed. Changing as a human being is a hard thing to do. Changing for the better even more so.
I think Dana is absolutely right in praising Diaz for his behaviour. I think he is sometimes a little quick with his praise with towards to wrong people and stingy with criticism when it is warranted but in this case i absolutely think that he was right.
Diaz will still get crushed. But at least he is showing some grace and confidence in himself. Not the false kind, where he has to scream and rant against the world. But the one that shows actual self confidence and being at ease with himself.
He must be torn apart and wonky on the inside from all this, just shaking to pieces like a Vietnam era helicopter in an autistic child's rock tumbler left in a off-balance washing machine on a vibrating bed in a haunted motel on Vietnamese New Year.
Fighting GSP has him so off balance he does not know how to act anymore, no more running tuff guy now u face the best WW ever, probably scared and all confused
