Orwell was a socialist. He wasn't for democracy and capitalism. He was for Socialism. They powers that be pushing to break down rights are on the socialist/communist side, and that is exactly who Orwell picked up a gun for in Spain.
Antifa pretty much wrote their playbook from his "Homage to Catalonia".
If Orwell was alive he would be supporting Antifa and Bernie Sanders and AOC and the like.
Great author and I love all of his work although I believe in very different things.
I think many people haven't read a lot of what he has written and misinterpret his positions and what he stood for.
I'm in agreement that the far left has gone off the deep end as far as their harassment, especially online, with people who do not share their progressive ideals, although the far right has a similar problem. That is mostly fragmented groups and individuals though both on the left and right. As far a legislation, however, it has been the right that has consistently opposed individual rights including privacy, consumer protections, protections against government agency monitoring and oversight, and extreme forms of freedom of speech. The rights that the left seem to oppose are interpretations of the second amendment and extreme forms of freedom of speech that are considered hate speech. The biggest problem of the left and right are their increasing willingness to court the individual groups on the far fringes of either side. Both fringes are trying to censor and harass opposition ideals.
there is the two minutes of hate. They are quite literally RHEEEing at everything from Trump getting elected, to hating of white people, capitalism, and the west.
